US military start to withdraw today, it will take them at least 1
year to completely pull out from Iraq. So whoever is going to sit
in the Oval office will still have to work on Iraq for the first
few years.
I wonder if there's anything to work on when the situation is
practically out of US hands. If by anything, getting out of there
and not giving cause for some nationalist elements, even supposed
ones, excuses for guerrilla warfare against the US. As it is, there
are 3 main factions, and even within the Sunni and Shia Arabs,
there is plenty of intra-factional fighting and the Iraqi Govt
continues to coast towards oblivion. Not least, the real threats to
the entire concept of an Iraqi state come from the south and north;
Iran and Saudi Arabia.
Rather than military operation with regime changed as objective.
A wider expansion on the fight against terrorist will be
redeployment of smaller forces and more focus on Terrorist cell and
organization across the region. Such as what we saw from Somalia,
but military command and information gathering will continue that I
think is a long term military strategy that place emphasis on
Africa and mid east conflict rather than a party strategy.
You do realise that the entire notion of "regime change" is
something that assumes that the people will happily come out and
kiss the feat of the "liberating" Americans. The truth of the
matter only becomes clear when the powers that put the previous
Govt in power resort to a brutal guerrilla war to fight the
Americans.
As for Africa, seriously, what the situation is a big mess and
entangling in a big mess has always been a no no. The US as it is,
resorts to war by proxy instead of direct confrontation. Even if
troops are sent, they resort to low key actions.
Dont be surprise If Hillary were to assume the helm I do
believe her policy will be rather different from what we saw from
Bill or past democrats.
It is too early to even comment on what her policies will be
like.
