Yup, but when the opportunity arises to get Australian citizenship, there is a choice to be made. Then there is the temptation of clearing out your CPF if you take Australian citizenship.(and thus having to give up your SG citizenship)

Just curious if there are any crap admin charges if do forfeit your SG citizenship and clear out your CPF. (I think tis the main reason for Govt to relook into the dual citizenship laws)

People leave Singapore because they realise that they cannot be whole here.

To quote Xenoboy, who has put it very succinctly on his weblog.

"You are perfect only if you are half. In Singapore, there are no carpe diems."

What they want is creative, intellectual and visionary Singaporeans who will work, live and play within a set paradigm. You choose to fulfil your own destiny beyond this set of rules, you have to leave, or else it will kill your spirit.

Sometimes, perhaps increasingly so today, the more you try to love Singapore, the more it breaks your heart.

Of course, I don't expect certain individuals to understand the existentialist discourse that this whole post is underpinned on, but many here will know what I mean.

I did not think any admin charges will charged to local if they decided to chane to other country's citizenship.

I myslef as a PR is also subjected to the same rule as local when coming to withdraw CPF at the age of 55. Back to the title of immigration, local is becoming like the HK people when they decided to migrate to Canada.
US is a land of opportunity.

Does it matter? Like I said, take it with a pinch of salt if you will, but isn't it rather a lack of courtesy to question someone's integrity? (like calling it fairytales) Isn't especially impolite expeically when there is no basis for it?

Unless there is a counter testimony from another who has lived there and said that whatever Fymk has claimed is not possible.

From what I read, there are 8500 new Singapore citizens every year for the last 10 years, which is about 85,000 "NEW" Singaporeans over the last 10 years. Is that what you are saying?

I am sure opportunities to make money are one of the pull factors, especially for those from developing Asian countries. However there are also many reasons why people choose to work and live in Singapore.

a) Low income tax
b) Security
c) Multi-cultural society
d) Food
e) Cleanliness
f) Easy access to many exotic countries and island within 2 hours of flight
g) Convenient
h) International schools
i) Entertainment and shopping
j) Strict law on crimes
k) Politically stable (I am sure this will pissed many off, but it is a fact)
l) Free trade policy
