what have they done to help. Oh i forgot they increase GST to help the poor. i'm sad you accepted the bait with GST credit but how long does it last or whether it help? today all the essential are on the rise. all medical cost are on the rise. transport fare are on the rise

i hope the aother plans are not to project the GST to 10% in the not so near furture.

Well PAP has a majority vote of 66.6% in a election system engineered by the PAP. And that is only in the contested GRCs and SMCs. A pity they(oppsition) didn't contest further.

Take Aljunied GRC for example, I don't dispute that George Yeo is a capable man. But I don't think that the other 4 are of Equal calibre to him. In the GRC system, you spread influence of George Yeo over the geograhical area that is equal to roughly 5 SMCs.

Then again, bringing back to answer your first post, I'm am here to spread the word, raise awareness that :

Vote oppsition doesnt equate to overthrowing the government. Say in a ratio of 40% PAP 30%WP 30%SDA/DRP etc... PAP will still form the government, but the difference, they do not make laws of thier own, They have to at least convince other MPs from other parties that the law they are passing is just. Which is very different from LKY passing a bill with PAP holding almost over 90% seats. The constitution can only be amended with s special majority of 66% votes of the electorate, on the second and third reading of the bill. Ordinary law can be enacted with only a simple majority of 51%.

That my objective, to raise awreness of the above facts among singaporeans. To bring them out of a state of "learned helplessness". To get poeple out of the "Emperor's new clothes syndrome".

But I don't vote for them based on the past 40 years. I do that based on their RECENT performances. You don't buy a car just because it used to be the best right (ableit the only choice Laughing ).

I believe the whole idea of increasing GST by 2% is to fund some future expenditure which our government has yet to announce and I believe that this is likely to be something that will benefit the low income Singaporeans. Suppose if this is true, I will fully support the increase of 2% GST because

a) The lower income Singapore will gain at the expense of the middle and higher income earners, which I think it fair.

b) An increase in 2% GST will means that our government will generate more revenue fpr Singapore from the influx of tourists and foreigners. Yes, there is such thing as GST rebate, but not expenses can qualify for rebate.

PAP might be hard on the opposition who is trying to distablise the government, but I believe they are not cold blooded human beings who will neglect those who have left behind.

Actually PAP having 51% is still bad, they are still able to pass laws on their own. if they have 40-45% they can still be the ruling party if the rest of the 55% votes are split between two or more parties.

66.6% votes...do you know how PAP has won elections hands down in the past 40 years? By using the ISD to create a climate of fear. If one votes for the opposition, beware of ISD agents knocking on one's door. That was the past but the climate of fear has continued its legacy till today.

Have you made a count on the number of civil servants and uniformed forces personnel in Singapore? SAF, SPF, SCDF, EDB, SPRING, TTSH, CGH, SGH, NUH, NUS, NTU, ITE, NIE, Polytechincs, LTA, HDB, WDA, IRAS, Temasek, MDA, SIA, CPFB, MTI, MHA, MOM, URA, SingTel, HPB, IDA, A*Star, HSA, EMA, MOE, MPA, NHB, PA, PUB, SLA, SMC, SSC, STB, SLF, CAAS, DSTA and a lot more.

Would they vote against their employer and break their rice bowls? And it does not help that in elections, our voting slips have serial numbers.

I also have a friend in his 20s who voted for the PAP because he fears that his HDB application may be rejected should he vote for the opposition. Mind you, he's educated.

I am alll right with LHL's GST policy but not the 2 million pay salary issue.

The positon MM is like a honourary position.

Weird it is to have to see "3 prime ministers" in the parliament. But as long as the persons sitting at this three positions of PM, SM, MM are not corrupt people (think MM's pay should be so much loh, a bit politically off you know), I think the elders of the Singapore politics can safeguard the future of Singapore politics (except the position of MM, hope it only last for LKY ONLY)

Which is part of the problem, most people don't even know whats on the constitution. But thats where the PAP gets its power.

Special Majority of 2/3 of the elctorate on the second and 3rd reading in parliament is needed to amend the Constitution (which is the supreme law of the land)

Simple Majority (which means 51%) of the electorate is need to enact ordinary law.

PAP has 82 of 84 seats. So there is no way to check PAP's power within a legal system that is manupliated by the PAP, who are even involved in the appointment of the judges. If the PM sues you, the presiding judge could very well be indirectly appointed by him.

Hence, we should raise awareness, of this to all members of the public.
