General Hospital (SGH) yesterday.Seriously hope something can be
done:
[b]"Established in 1821, the SGH is Singapore's oldest and largest
acute tertiary hospital and national referral centre."That is what
is said in the "About Us" section. But i have to say the service is
substandard, considering it is the largest acute tertiary hospital
and national referral centre.
To begin,i went to A&E yesterday at 1147am,that was the time i
registered.But i left the hospital at 1935.I had suffered a 4cm
wound on my left foot that was so deep that polyclinic referred me
to SGH.They had done a dressing for me already but there was still
some bleeding.I was also unable to move my left leg at all,and
unable to walk as a result. But i was only stitched up at 7pm.I had
my xrays taken already by 1pm,but till then till 7pm,i was just
sitting on the wheelchair hoping for the doctor to come.I was to
see the specialist for bones, and i was told there was only 1 doctor
on duty and he had to attend to emergencies as well.Fine,i agree
that there are more serious patients than me,but come on,think for
a second, broken bones are very common.Isn't it only wise to have
more doctors for that area.I mean since it is the largest hospital
in Singapore there would mean a high number of patients, and it is
only right that there are enough doctors around to tend to the
patients.I mean having just 1 doctor for a certain area is simply
absurd. There were 3 other patients and their families were also
asking what kind of service it was. After all we pay taxes.
Ok now for the second part. There were no more appointments
available yesterday so i was told i would be given a call byt he
appointment department.I received a call this morning saying it was
on the 22nd of May.I mean 11 days before my stitches come out? I
told the nurse that and she said 'well if you get an infection go
to the polyclinic'.What kind of service is that? Can't you tell
what is important and what is not.And besides it would take just
10minutes.So for 11 full days,i am going to have my foot
bandaged, with stitches intact and look for infections?I am not a
doctor please tell me how to see infections.
I would not be surprised if i do not receive a reply or receive a
reply after 1 month, after all i saw the ugly side of Singapore's
largest hospital yesterday,i hope that you can still practice some
ethics.
Thank you.

Wa, complaint about SGH again. Why other hospitals don't receive
as many complaints as SGH is receiving?
They will never change and improve their service lah. Don't place
high hope on them. So what if they have increased fees, ISO
certified and what crap. They will still be who they are.
There are many problems in SGH. So many internal problems, too! My
good friend works there told me the INs and OUTs of the way
patients are treated and the dirty politics there. So if there are
struggles even within the hospital itself, don't think they can put
service to patients as first priority. The dirty politics there is
horrible, for eg, if they don't like the staff, they can
deliberately find fault and anyhow quote a reason to get the staff
terminated. This happened more than once already. Sometimes could
be power struggles among doctors so affect their service.
If you wanna go public hospital, don't go SGH, go TTSH (Tan Tock
Seng). Over there they provide good service and moreover so
conveniently located.
Go write letter to their CEO called Professor Tan Ser Kiat and have
it writen "to be opened by addressee only" on the envelope to see
how he can handle your problem.
