Gazelle SG The government's concern is not limited to the so call top-talent, but talent across the board and by saying that I am also saying that that all Singaporeans are talent I personally think the current system is very pro top talent and thats why scholars and grad from Ivy league universtity are all being snap up by big corporation.
LazerLordz SG Like it's more of a hindrance to personal growth, not to mention I'll probably get ulcers and sleepless nights from having to toe the party line. One can contribute to the nation away from the PAP sphere.
walesa SG Nice to know there're more rational souls out there who see the political vendetta one is invariably feeding through those "menial" deeds(like those mentioned by CM06)...
will4 SG The National day rally speech focused on the problem of immigration by local to other countries and the figure given is 800. I believed out of these 800 locals, some could be talented locals.
will4 SG The govt is already worried cause they kept on telling locals to be friendly towarsd the foreign professionals. Remember the immigration launched a site for foreigners to assessed whether they eligible to be PR?
Coquitlam SG I think there will be more quitters in the years to come.... There is nothing Sillypore can do about it. I know its so easy to blame the powers that be but that is the truth. There are some disadvantages that this country can never overturn but they can sure try to improve other glaring disadvantages that this little red dot has....For all the plus points that this country has, its just superficial.... I am a quitter and am proud of it. There are many others like me and we simply do what our heart desires....We do not stop others from staying in little red dot so no one should stop us from quitting. It's our choice and we treat it as such, a personal decision.....It's not about loyalty or anything but its simply a freedom of choice.....what earlier threads have said is true, simple reason is globalization but other reasons though not so obvious are reasons every Sillyporean who has stayed in here at least 30+ years will know...its all superficial and if you tear away the veneer, there is lots of things that needs to be addressed.... So adios and so long
robertteh SG As a quitter, if one can afford to quit there should be no regret. After all this is what the government is trying to do now - to replace their own local citizens with foreigners whom they could count on to solve problems. Many property speculators in town are now telling people to buy properties saying that "Not to worry, Just keep buying properties because the government will keep importing foreigners to replace the local quitters. It looks like the government has already passed certain laws to give foreigners pr and citizenship as long as they could buy one of the expensive properties in Sentosa or Marina. Now many top GLC CEOs, their families, civil servants and ministers are now buying expensive town down properties at prices which were never before thought feasible. It is now looking like a case of insider trading in property.
Coquitlam SG Many reasons make me think...have you work and lived and studied overseas? Do you know how our system really work here....go count the number if disillusioned people here and those who have come here to settle down...do you know the stats of people leaving here over the past 10 years...
Gazelle SG I dont think we should talk about those who have left, but rather, what make you so sure that there is rising trend of Singaporeans leaving this country in the coming years? Which overseas country are you comparing when you make that statement that their system is better than Singapore? And what make you so sure that majority of Singaporeans would prefer overseas system?
Coquitlam SG My poor illiterate Gazelle I never claimed that the majority of Sillyporeans wanted to leave...you don't need to compare against other countries whether there is a rising trend. There is indeed a rising trend both from what ICA has released in terms of figures...of course these are things that they will not want to overtly highlight...besides its of no great importance to the man on the streets..It's just my own observations and also when I speak to emigration centres in Sillypore...they know best who are the ones leaving and how many each year cos they process applications for Aust, US, Canada, China, Uk etc.... Get real....more and more people will move both in and out of here...go read some books on globalization. Better yet, go study and work overseas for a few years at least and then compare as I have done
kecang_puteh SG Wow, you are concerned about a supposed brain drain after asking one woman who is already working overseas and already has an obvious inclination to work overseas. Where is your objectivity? You also asked a Korean and you come to a conclusion that foreigners don't want to work in Singapore based on this one person? For your info, there are surveys done by impartial organizations that rate Singapore as the best place to live in for expatriates: http://www.eca-international.com/ASP/ViewArticle2.asp?ArticleID=150 Get your facts right
Coquitlam SG Cool...soulwinner you made the right choice...where would you like to go? MElbourne, Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Perth, Seattle...Shanghai?
walesa SG Besides Pyongyang, I don't think there's anywhere on this planet - while you may make an issue about the poor quality of life material-wise or security issues in many parts of the developing world, at least you get a lower/more affordable cost of living - that is worse than Singapore on every front imaginable... PS : Personally, of all the places I've ever resided in (and I mean for quite a substantial period of time), Geneva, New York and Los Angeles remain for me the most conducive environment for work and recreation...
Gazelle SG Singapore is ranked 17th in the list of world most expensive cities, behind, seoul, toyko, hong kong, beijing, osaka, so what are you talking about?
walesa SG People emigrate for a vast number of reasons. If cost of living were the only issue, there'd be tonnes of people emigrating to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Zaire. So what is it exactly do you not understand?
