Dear Michael and everyone,
Hopeless. Inept. Pathetic. Wayang.
I am sorry but I think mincing words now will give you guys the
fake ego-trip that the media is giving you all. (When are we ever
going to see a media that truly reflects the views form the ground?
When, Michael? In the 30th Century?)
But I digress.
Two things:
One, with the public disdain (to put it mildly) for such exorbitant
salaries for public servants, I wonder if real, truly altruistic,
capable people will now join the PAP or the govt in a rush. It
makes me wonder whether the govt has made the task of capable
people joining the govt even harder. Would a TRULY altruistic,
selfless, capable person now want to join the civil service when
they are aware that they will and are perceived as money-grabbers
by the public?
Has the PA govt shot itself in its own foot?
It wont be the first time.
Two, I am truly ashamed at the standard of debates and speeches by
the likes of you in parliament.
You guys have missed the whole point totally. You have missed the
woods for the trees - all seduced and hypnotised into stupidity and
narrow-mindednesss by the likes of LHL and LKY.
You think money is the panacea to this problem - but you have
missed the REAL cause of the problem.
And what is that?
A political system in the throes of malfunction.
And yet, all you guys can do is to advocate more money be thrown at
it to keep it going. I am not talking about partisan party
politics.
I am talking about the entire system that the PAP govt has created,
installed and faked.
You have created sideshows disguised as political engagement in
our schools, particularly our tertiary institutions.
You have perverted our elections process through circumscribed
coercion - where the sacred vote is reduced in value to one of
using it just to decide if one wants HDN upgrading.
You have engaged in bribery, vote-buying. All well-timed with the
support of a lapdog media and lapdog MPs who, as long as it
benefits them, defend it with ill-logic and ignorance.
You have banned films, publications, circumscribed OB markers - all
invisible. You have given yourselves the discretionary power to
decide what is not in the public interest.
You have installed new rules and laws, amended them, as and when
you feel the people are beginning to have real power. You curtail
opposition growth - through perversions and abuse such as the GRC
system, the perverted use of discretionary and well-timed
electoral boundary re-drawing. You use tax payers money to buy
votes.
You use the security forces to threaten, coerce, frighten and
punish those who go against your dictates.
All these you do.
And the results are spectacular.
Half of you - and more than half of you in the past - men and women
dressed in white waltz into parliament under the fake sign of
victory.
And there you stay secure - knowing that all the apparatus of the
state is at your disposal to use and abuse, to keep you in
power.
And there also is where you dictate, pronounce and decree how the
commoners must live.
And so, Michael. You think money is the problem.
It is not.
The problem, and it is a deep-seated, entrenched one, the problem
is the perverted, corrupted, corroded and self-serving political
system we have in place.
Self-serving to the PAP, of course.
And of course, again, you have to believe that this serves
Singapore, the Nation. How else would you justify it?
How else would you justify your not being able to win a single vote
and yet be in there in parliament for many terms and even decades
(witness Koo Tsai Kee, for example.)
It is a problem with our political problem where passion, empathy,
altruism, confidence and altruism is battered and bruised into
submission and made to bend its knees at the altar of and in the
name of economic progress - at all cost.
So, please dont keep your eyes on your navel and dont be a frog
in a well.
None of you inspires.
None of you can move hearts.
None of you deserve to be in parliament with the present system as
it is.
Thus, none of you can understand why were upset.
You think you do - but in reality, you dont.
You really dont.
Now, which one of you can grasp what I am trying to say?
More importantly, how many of you, which one of you, has the
gumption, the courage, and the passion to stand up, be different,
be true and demand change to a system that is the fundamental
reason why no one wants to serve without first a big paycheck
stuffed in his face?
Which one o you will do what is right, what is true and do what you
are there to do?
Which one of you will represent the people of singapore?
And do right by our Nation?
Which one of you, Michael?
