"However, the group's visiting EU parliamentarians, including a
former deputy prime minister of Luxembourg, criticised the police
decision.
.
They had earlier paid an official visit to Singapore's Deputy
Speaker Indranee Rajah and two other Singapore MPs in the
afternoon. "We asked them to seek a review of the decision. They
said they could not do that because it was a matter for the police.
I can't believe that because I don't think Singapore is a police
state," Mr Watson told reporters.
.
The EU said on Friday it regretted the decision. The ALDE added
that the decision had "overshadowed" the Asia-Europe Foundation's
10th anniversary celebrations here on the same day.
The group, which has 106 members in the 732-seat EU Parliament,
said the decision "throws into question" a Partnership and
Cooperation Agreement being finalised between the EU and
Singapore.
