Seeing one side of the coin only?
No doubt Singapore requires a credible opposition, however the
question is if the powers that be are creating the suitable
conditions within the country to allow such an opposition to even
arise.
At the same time, our supposingly "best and brightest" somehow
produce ideas that smell strongly of groupthink, and sentiments are
starting to be expressed from the ones currently in power that
competition is undesirable.
I'm not too sure if this is a sign of a healthy system.
No doubt the opposition needs to stop a lot of their silly
infighting and get their act together, but let's not forget the
other large thing that's really getting in the way of a credible
opposition... and it is really the only player in this field that
benefits the most from having no credible opposition, and intends
to keep it that way no matter how it might eventually pan out for
the nation.
And do you seriously think by sticking with the "safest" choice,
one is actually helping to ease this problem? Or adding to it by
confirming that the current approach to the opposition works?
