Is Mitsubishi GTO a powerful car?

pacific_rain SG

Hi.. Just wish to know any form of opinions from u guys.. Is Mitsubishi GTO a powerful car? Among these cars, RX-7 96 FD version, WRX STI Version VI ,EVO VI, SKYLINE GTR R34, SILVIA S15.... all without any forms of mods, how will their rank go?
From fastest to slowest. Thanx!

kidmccoy SG

the gto is quad turbo (i tink) and 4wd
got heaps of power and yeah it runs pretty quick

from fastest to slowest wihtout mods..... i'll say....
r34
evo6
sti
gto
rx7
s15

i'm prob wrong but yeah this is the data i get from the drags i've been to... most are modded cars though but the order should be similar anwayys

GTO is not as powerful as most people think. While power is decent, weight is tubby, hence its slower.

as for your list, my opinion is that:
r34
evo6
rx7
sti
s15
gto

hmmm i was under the impression that the gto was the flag ship car for mitsu for quite a long time didnt realise they were too slow
still they can pull mid 13s from factory so they are pretty good i rekcen

Agreed....GTO is powerful but slow cos of its heavy weight...handling-wise not that good also

I don't know much about the GTO but when I was in college I had a Dodge Stealth RT Turbo for a while and the dealer told me it was the same as the GTO. It was a pretty fun car. I can't say anything about the handling because I've never personally tried taking it through an obstacle course though. So maybe it's not such a performer compared to the rest of what you listed, but it sure looks good. It's a true blue sports coupe not a sedan...

GTO was never Quad turbo...it was only twin turbo....i can only think of one quad turbo car....Bugatti EB110... Mr. Green

flagship car for mitsu is EVO series ah?

kidmccoy SG

quad turbo hehe my bad

naw i jus tout that the gto was the circuit car for mitsu and evo was the rally car

well according to a vcd i owned...
a couple of these cars were tested on the circuit by best motoring(japan version).
they are skyline, evo7 rs, sti spec c and rx7. s15 and gto wasnt in.
the result for the straight should be...(s15 and gto estimated)
rx7
r34
sti spec c
evo7 rs
gto
s15

circuit wise...
rx7
r34
sti spec c
evo 7 rs
s15 & gto (tight race, one is underpower while one slow in corners)

i was surprise that the sti spec c pickup is much more faster than the evo although evo could corner faster. but the circuit was more of straight. so bad luck for the evo.

rx7 rules...won the race despite some problem with the brakes.
the pickup, cornering...no other car could catch up.

r34 also not bad...corner like gt cars.
with the front holding tight while the rear drifts slightly round the corner.

for 0-400m sprint, the R34 is the fastest, coming in in the low 12s, second would be the NSX Type-S. the FD only comes in after the NSX.

I owned a GTO (Mitsu 3000GT VR4) in the US for about 3 years... with an AWD launch, few cars are faster stoplight-to stoplight, but the car is weaker on the top end due to the 20% drivetrain loss that AWD cars suffer. Also, it's not a car you want to throw around in the twisties because it understeers badly and it IS a heavy car... After modes, the best time I ran at the track was a [email protected], not bad for a 9 year old car, I guess.... Pics are here

it’s powerful enough to turn you into a smear on the wall if you do not drive properly…

gto is fast sumor it a 3l car but it kinda of rare in sg nw.
but e rd tax is v costly coz it 3l! but then although it fast but e performance is nt till those wow wow stage

Si|verGa| SG

well it too bulky! if 3l not powerful it reli a failure lor. but then it performance is nt those v impressive 4 3l car

i wonder which is quicker rx7 or rx8. i still feel that rx7 is a better car than rx8.

well... true it is definately not stock. But then talking about non stock cars sort of defeats the purpose here... ever seen a NOSed McLaren F1 perform? believe me... when I saw the clip, I thought the darned thing was a plane flying low... thats crazy..... im sure a Murcielago modded would be freaking crazy too....

I've even seen a 69 Camaro beating a full bells and whistles Toyota Supra by 3 or 4 car lengths(possibly more) for a 1/4 mile run. Seems good old american muscle is still the ultimate straight line king, and the Camaro was burning methanol for fuel too... crazy

KhidMasAE86 SG

yeah bro. Abt the GTO - its a heavily modded killing machine. i saw i saw the NOSed Maclaren clip before. hehe madness... going almost 450km/h right? Camaro also powerful...american muscle. I also saw a 1000bhp Diablo...doing 100m in 5secs. hehe madness....

I got another true story.... a friend of mine is running a 2.0boost in his wrx.... but he cannot outrun a malaysian registered Accord on KJE. Funny thing is... we heard external wastegate from it. tc-charged i guess... we are going at 185km/h... still cannot hahahaha....
