No foresight and not enterprising - F1 and IR

The thing with ''X'' factor is that most of the time, it is in the eye of the beholder...... we live here all our live, of course everything (buildings, skyline... etc) seems boring to us..... but the F1 race is not just for us....

Again..... other people around the world might have a difference view..... we could at least give it a try.

Enough natural have been destory in S'pore already.... strongly disagree to cutting down of trees just to let the camera have a better view. Trees can't move.... people and camera could. Let the TV guys solve the problem. Thats why they are so well paid.... Mr. Green

The fact that the Hungaroring and Magny-Cours are still on the calendar even though they're bloody processions demonstrates otherwise. Laughing

You don't seem to understand how Formula 1 works and how Bernie works. It's not "another" tourist attraction. It has legions of fans who follow every race in the championship loyally. And deals done with circuits are signed for multiple years. It's not like voting for a venue for the Olympic Games. If you can negotiate with The Dwarf he'll bring the whole circus here.

If you've been the Malaysian Grand Prix, you'll know what a pain the roads outside are before and after the race. A street circuit in the heart of town is much more convenient for the fans and that is a plus.

I've been through the route myself and I know what I'm talking about, thank you very much.

Hi hloc, I too love trees, you should see the plants i have at home. The trees have to go, but they do not have to be chopped. Very Happy

I use to believe alot of things are difficult to understand create, but then others around the world shows us that with determination (and some money), anything is possible. Thus X factor is also no mystery at all, you just need to know who to ask to make it happen. The right people can create the "X" factor.

If you can ask the following people to come together, they will give you a circuit with at least 10 years mileage;

Steven Speilberg
James Cameroon
Daniel Libeskind
Steve Jobs
Michael Eisner (disney)
And the designing team from the top 3 racing video games

They seems to be the most unlikely people, but i can garantee you, if you can get them to work together, they will give you one of the most amazing F1 circuit in history

Please include Herman Tilke in that list, at least he knows what’s required of a Formula 1 track. He’s already been engaged for the current plans.

hloc SG

hahaha... agree with both of you Exclamation We need the WILL to get things started....... $$$, race circuit, trees, skyline.... etc, is just a problem to overcome

But 1st...... Govt must overcome the "CHEAP & GOOD'' thinking... Mr. Green

Hi Kuali Baba, the reason why i didn't include professionals from within F1 initially is to do away with "that's impossible" syndrome. Then the proposal by the other group of professionals will at least have some possibility. For normal cases, even if the final result is just 10% of the orinignal from the creative group, it will be very spectacular.

Agreed with you hloc that our govt must be committed; Shanghai poured $350 million into a new circuit without an hesitation, and we are trying by just S$10-12 million in support? If you were the F1 owner and organiser, how would you feel then about Singapores commitment to F1?

Kuali Baba SG

You still need someone among them who's familiar with what the safety requirements for an F1-spec track are.

pardon me, am i missing out something here...are u also implying tt the gahmen here is also `cheap and good' since they adopt that line of thinking? practice what they preach?

Definitely, as we are talking about 1 ton projectiles travelling as speed of excess 300kmh, thus safety is priority one. But they have to come in later as you cannot expect a safety officer to be very creative, their job is to make people stick by the rule, else people will die.

Let the creative people propose then see what can be pass thru safety, take what is left of the best, then the result should be ok. Must let the correct people do the correct job in the correct sequence.

The Eiffel tower was first built to be a monument for an exhibition, then they use it for telegraphy antenna, then for radio antenna and then for TV broadcasting. Now it is a landmark that preciously guarded by French.

An F1 car weighs 600 kg, inclusive of the driver and ballast.

Aside from your need to brush up on F1 knowledge, the collaboration idea is worthwhile.

some of the greater circuits in the world have golfparks, themeparks and hotels built with the tracks around it. THAT would be an integratic resort. a beach hotel with a casino is nothing integrated.

5 years ago, Apple is computer, Music is CD player and Handphone is Nokia.

Today, Apple is IPOD, iTunes and soon to rock the world iPhone. Maybe we can all learn to wear black once in a while and take a walk outside our comfort zone to see whats possible.

By the way, when i saw iPhone, Apples 1st phone , i would have fired all my handphone designers if i own Nokia, Sony E, Samsung and the rest of the leading brand.

well ... would you rather the powers-that-be be "tee kee" and refuse to back track on previous policy decisions ? .... Laughing

HAHAHA..... no lah..... When they do anything, the thing must be "Cheap & Good".... but when come to their pay.... what do you think.... hahahaha Mr. Green

Its report on ST that there will be a F1 driver testing the circuit on this Sat morning, as the cat is out of the bag, I am betting that our govt WILL MISS this golden (publicity) opportunity to show off Singapore and its commitment to F1.

For example (what we can do) -
Close off the circuit road for one hour, invite all local big shots (our financial and political people), invite all the international press (offer them the very 1st opportunity to see F1 city circuit), shows VIP shaking hands with F1 driver, then let him test the circuit in his posh at full speed (no spped limit.

The govt officials will definitely argue that it is impossible and unnecessary, but if any of them are business people they will know that the cost of airtime by the international press (free world wide TV coverage) will be worth all the hassale and effort for doing this.
