It is possible that some of them may be using SG as a stepping stone to go to USA or Canada. I once had a PRC-bron classmate whose family later moved to Toronto.

I kena told once by a local that if a foreigner worked in Spore,they will be held in high regards if they happened to show it to potential employers.

the PRC nationale does come to Singapore as a Stepping stone so that they can travel to the US. Because Singapore passport does not require Visa.

Not all chinese come to singapore with good intention. Some are political observer send by PLA. Some want a better life, some want to go other place.
But I can tell you most would not assimulate well into Singapore until the 2nd generation.

The indian mirgrant are more rooted into India, most will move on after a few years.

Accent or not accent , they speak better mandarin than us. Period. How many of us can hold up our hands and say we can speak fluent mandarin (without english ) . So far I have seen the youths , sad to say most cannot speak very good mandarin. Even the mandarin educated chinese can't speak fluently, you can hear them speaking with a mixture of hokkien in the conversation .

I am one of those who can put up his hands and say I can't speak good mandarin ?

Most malays and Indians can speak their language well but why can't we ? This is talking point. (<-- I change my mind about this point )

That's the key thing. We need to sometimes be able to talk and "brag" about our achievements in a formal setting. I think generally, we S'poreans are the "doers" and the "writers" and somehow lacking in this area. Not many of us are able to stand out there and "brag" about something that we do. When I say "bragging", I mean actually marketing ourselves.

Perhaps this has got something to do with our education and also our system of having to "show proof" in everything we do. Sometimes, we may have only half the proof, but we have to bite the bullet and have the guts to go out there to "brag" about it. Maybe this part, the FTs do better than us.

I hv personally encountered a PRC who actually speaks quite well and has excellent type (2) skills. Unfortunately, her writing skills let her down.....

Oh... I forgot to add something else.

This flow of FT to our country can also be reversed, ie, we (if we think that we are good enough), can also flow to some other neighbouring countries who need our skillsets and enjoy higher pay there.

Generally, I feel that our education system has already given us a leg-up and we should be able to do more things efficiently and effectively in other countries as FT, eg. Dubai, Hongkong, US, EU, NZ, Australia (this later 2 countries just be careful bcos of higher personal taxes and GST).

Well.... haven't u heard of the New World Order, frequently spoken about by our top leaders? The internet has just opened a lot more opportunities for everyone (provided u are prepared to work overseas on local terms) :-)

that's why I only mention certain higher pay countries (relative to our pay structure here). I guess no one will want towork in those countries where the pay structure is lower than ours right?

see... when u go overseas and work, employers here generally find that o/s experience is preferred. FTs also work on the same concept lah..

Spore is hpoing to increase the local Chinese population by asking Chinese national to sink their roots here. I believed there is plenty of Sporean

migrating to other countries each year.
