I am curious after reading about the poor family's plight of not being able to wait another day..

Are we 'automatically' opted in by MOH for Organ Donation, or do we need to Opt In before they can demand that we die when we are terminally ill??

I've opted out for the kidneys. Got the card. Think need to apply again for the other organs.

Too lazy to do it on my own. The kidney is because someone called my phone and asked me when I was 18(or was it 21?) to ask me want to (forgot opt in/out) lah.

Anyway, I opt out lor. Wasn't really thinking that time. Now hoping my kidneys won't fall and die otherwise I'll be in the back of the queue. Razz

but the thing is, with my lifestyle, i wonder which of my organs are still in good working condition when i die.......

The question I do want to know is, can they determine whether your organs can be used before they cut you up and remove them? If cannot use, do they still cut you up?

Knowing the Singapore way, I presume no matter how bad your organs are, you'll be cut up first, organs removed before anything else. So then another question, if your organs cannot be used, will they be put back into your dead body or are they thrown into some dustbin and sent to incinernary(sp?) plant and burn? Laughing

Opt our procedure is already questionable and dubious as it presumes consent without obtaining consent from all relevant parties, and loved ones and the victim himself.

To make matter worse than questionable and dubious, when a patient is in coma, opt-out procedure is unreasonably interpreted against the patient to the extent of murdering him to get to the organ.

What kind of society have we degraded to ? Any respect for human life when life is dangling in coma to be saved. Which life deserves saving the one about to die or the one waiting for transplant.

I wonder if the doctor will just anyhow tell the family that the patient is brain dead when they are actually in coma in order to harvest the organs?

How to tell the diff? So do we need to have one medical staff in every family to ensure that we are not being lied or cheated?

Excuse me OM, but do you think the processes of 'uprooting' one's life from SGP to be a simple, and swift procedure??

There are plenty of paper work to be done, many loose ends to tie up, much to hand over to close relations, and numerous visits to my lawyer over Accounts Receiveables from clients here.

So please, if you will, I am indeed moving out - or as you wioll have so often put it; Shipping Out - and very happily so... Mr. Green

I received this Hota letter last year when I am 21 years old. For me, it’s opt-in, unlike most of you. Please don’t be mistaken, I am not a Muslim.The reason is obvious , don’t need to say.

I think our 146th has given the ‘opt-out policy’ adverse publicity and many indifferent people are now taking action to opt-out.

You are right! They let one die so they can save > 5! Heart lungs liver kidneyS cornea blah blah blah. Anyway, i dont think they should just let someone die so they can do that...if they are gone...it's another thing.

On another note. As far as i -believe- if you opt out, you are just letting others die(worse suffer!) when you have a chance to better their lives after you are dead yourself. I mean seriously how would you feel if you were told hey someone just died and matched your X requirements but you cannot get transplant cause he/she opt out already....think about that. Opting in/out is your own decision to save the lives of others.

imagine you, or one of your loved ones waiting desperately for an organ which has failed you. and yet you experience difficulty because nobody wants to donate.
or rather, nobody bothers to do so cos of the hassle.

its the dead person;s organ afterall and he has the right to decide if he shd give it.
but whats a bit of hassle if it can save many lives?
