Whatever Singtel paid for Optus was according to market value at
the time of the investment. Some might think its over priced, but
other might see it as a good deal especially if you consider what
PCCW has paid for HKT, and Hutchinson paid for the 3G licences in
Europe.
I thought the aussies were protesting against the sale of Optus to
Singtel because of the latter is linked to Singapore
government.
