Football security 'can't be guaranteed',(BangkokPost.com, from reports)02 Feb 2007

Thailand cannot guarantee the safety of football fans who travel to Bangkok to attend Sunday's final match of the Asean Football Championship Final, Tourism and Sports Minister Suvit Yodmani told Singaporeans yesterday.

Mr Suvit, in Singapore for an Asean tourism meeting, said police will do their best, but it is up to fans to "take necessary precautions."

"We will do our best to ensure safety ... but I cannot say please come cheer for your side because I really don't know what's going to happen."

Mr Suvit's comments were made to reporters at the five-day Asean Tourism Forum taking place all this week in Singapore.

"You never know when something could be started," he told the Singapore media. "So, let us lean more on the cautious side than on the complacent side."...

I was there and i saw how the police protected your people. They escorted them out of the stadium. Our guys uphold their duty to protect and serve. I don't know if your police will.

And if you read the papers, anyone from anyside trying to pick a fight was immediately removed from the scene and given a warning.

So far, has there been any mob in Singapore that specifically target Thais recently? Yeah, Singaporeans are better behaved, and I am proud of it

At least our police make it their responsibility to keep you Thais safe.

The Temasek incident has nothing to with most Singaporeans; Singaporeans' money are in it as well. What makes you think that they are more happier when this whole incident was blown?

Feelings aside, sports will always be sports, politics will always be politics.

Bring politics to sports and using that as a threat is despicable in my opinion.

Standing in your shoes is one matter, speaking up for my fellow mates is another. Put these two together and I'll be nasty. Rolling Eyes

Thank you for your force for doing so. I believe Thai police must do the same. You might not believe so and I don't force you. We'll see it soon anyway.

However, no guarantee of any kind can be given, especially in the atmosphere like this. It might be police's mistake to said it out loud, but even unsaid it should be known by default. It wasn't threatening, it just the notification to all Singaporean to go to watch the match to be careful, so you won't be ended up getting hurt if anything would really happened. Thais get nothing by threatening you or hurting your people, right? or we do?
