I wonder, what makes a thing ILLEGAL? Because our gov says so? Or
because the products may be poor in quality and or unsafe?? Or is
it simply, our gov could not profit form an unlicensed
hawker???
It sounds to me very much like the last reason.
Why must our gov make lives of those who can do little or has no
money to make a living, tougher???

The National Environment Agency (NEA) and the Singapore Police
Force (SPF) have issued a joint statement urging the public not to
purchase items, like party novelties, food or drinks from illegal
hawkers who usually peddle their wares in crowded areas or
mass-public participation mega-events like the forthcoming Marina
Bay Countdown.
In its last operation during the "Celebrate Christmas" concerts,
NEA officers issued 80 tickets against those hawking items like
spray foam, party novelties, food and drinks. Their wares were also
seized.
Illegal hawkers, if convicted, may be fined up to $1,000 and; in
the case of a second or subsequent conviction, fined up to $4,000
or jailed up to 3 months or to both.
NEA officers will continue to work with the Police to curb illegal
hawking along Marina Bay and other areas for the upcoming New Year
countdown celebrations.
