actually many office working environment are very mandarin
speaking, as an engineer, i need to converse a lot to my clients in
english.
here's a tip on how to make ur client smile,
most people speak english as a facade, if they treat u inside the
"circle of trust" they will speak mandarin already.
during discussions, just said something in mandarin, sure to make
everyone smile and an effective ice-breaking method. (thats if ur
listeners are chinese too)
besides, mandarin is the language which is hardest to learn and
more refined language in the world, 5000 years of history and
culture can't be wrong. Go Chinese cities like Taipei,HK,Beijing
etc observe the eloquence of the language.
Chinese languages are a really beautiful language, be it official
ones or dialects.
Although i am a Singaporean, english educated and grew up in
english speaking family. I am definately proud to be a Chinese and
i would never do anything to degrade Chinese langauge or
culture.
p.s. my mandarin is only good in singapore because everyone speaks
crappy mandarin in singapore, when i go cities like beijing, i
became i dumb-mute person so ashame of myself being not able to
speak proper chinese.
sigh...years of PAP's regime of trying to make SG bi-linguel, but
we are neither here nor there...
