Govt withdraws deferment of stamp duty payment on all
contracts
SINGAPORE : The government has withdrawn the deferment of stamp
duty payment on all contracts.
The concession for deferment was introduced about eight years ago
as part of the off-budget measures to cushion the impact of the
economic slowdown.
It allowed property buyers to pay the stamp duty at a later
date.
But in a statement, the Inland Revenue Authority says this has now
been withdrawn because the economic conditions and property market
have improved.
So property buyers must now pay stamp duty within 14 days from the
date of acceptance of the Option to Purchase.
Those who have accepted it before Dec 15 will not be affected by
this change. - CNA /ls
