recall anyone have three chinese character as surname one.

well. Because the pronouncation of the two Guo is similar, the
decendant of the Guo lord adopted the Guo as their surname.
Gan bai
Got two origin for the surname of Shen.
First one, the tenth younger brother of King Wu of Zhou was
conferred to the state of Shen. Then the country was destroyed by
the state of Jin, the royalty's decendant then use their state's
name as surname.
Second one. There was a corrupted officer in the state of Chu
during the late Spring and Autumn period. One of the royalty killed
the officer during a coup d'etat. Because he was once a magistrate
of the Shen province, his decendant use Shen as their
surname.
Chen was the decendant of one of the Five Emperor, Shun3.
After King Wu of Zhou overthrew the Shang dynasty, he married off
one of his daughter to a decendant of Shun and conferred him to the
state of Chen. After the state fell to Chu, one of the Chen lord
decendant escaped to the state of Qi and then use the state's name
as surname.
One person achieved great result while he was breeding horse for
the King, so he was conferred to the land of Qin. After a long
time, that person's great-grandson was killed when he was fighting
the western barbarian. His five children got so angry that they
fight bravely against the western barbarians and thoroughly
defeated them and recover a large area of arable land. The second
son was conferred to the Liang mountain in Xia4 Yang2.
Near the end of Spring and Autumn period, the lord for the state of
Liang introduce a lot of taxes (like income tax, GST etc etc etc)
that made people's life hard. Then a lot of people run away.
Finally, Lord Mu4 of Qin attacked and destroyed the Liang state.
The decendant of the Liang lord then use the name of their
conferred land as surname.
