Goh Meng Seng: Was he pushed or did he jump?

I blieve it is very brave for them to speak under their real name.In fact, their msg will give WP some publicities.

This is a timely warning to politicians and their supporters that those who resort to flame and insults on the Net will only bring dishonour to their political parties.

ditzy SG

You got a point there, hence it is safer to get others, their children, etc to do it. Laughing If anything goes wrong, a half fcuked apology will take care of everything.

LazerLordz SG

Some are better off as supporters of civil society groups. To label everything a political party is anachronistic. Laughing

I guess Goh Meng Seng would be remembered as one of the few who stood up for his principals and believes in the face of a difficult political climate. I’m certain many will react with glee to his demise from the political scene, these individuals unfortunately clearly fail to realize that Goh, as a non member of parliment, possesses the professionalism and ethical acumen superior to that of certain individuals. Some might argue that he MIGHT be forced out of the WP. Even if we were to concede that this was true, doesn’t it reflect the unbiased and above board conduct of the WP in outsturing a key member of their party when he has made a mistake? I think there are many out there who could learn from the example of Goh and the WP, afterall decency and transperancy was what the nation was founded upon, not flip-flops and a false illusion of superiority.

Mr Goh Meng Seng has an sgforums account i believe..

anyway.. sad that WP lost such a great person

I feel that this development is extremely disturbing. Can harsh language alone be a valid reason, even if only a partial one, to oust someone from political arena? We do not even know the context in which the words "scheming" and "lacking integrity" were used. For all we know, he was expressing an ethical opinon the vast majority would agree with.

Goh Meng Seng ought to be judged much more on the merit of his words, than the political correctness of the delivery. This, i feel, is a hallmark of mature dialogue in a truly robust and participatory civic society.

You seems very happy about it Rolling Eyes

It is possible that with the MDA's stand on podcasting and political issues, WP prefers not to get itself caught in potential timebombs which may result in legal tussles with members of the ruling party. Hence their new stand is probably limiting to emerging young guns like Chia Ti Lik and Goh Meng Seng.

No alternative wants to end up like the SDP, especially since WP is aiming to become a credible alternative to the Ruling party. But tying your own hands is like caging a bird. Some people cannot agree or accept it so they leave.

LazerLordz SG

The other side of the double-edged sword. Then they will always have to play in the MIW's court because the latter crafts policies according to their manifesto/belief/attitude.

This one gotta ask [email protected], I think. Laughing

Nothing wrong if they behave in a courteous manner towards those who hold differing views and all their statements are fair and accurate. That's not the characteristics of Sgforum...one is more likely to find irresponsible allegations, rantings and flaming statements here..

Any WP leader who makes a statement here will be construed as speaking on behalf of the party. If they make comments that misrepresents their party, the WP will have to pick up the tab. If they make defamatory remarks here, the WP carries vicarious liability and can be sued.

Essentially, the WP leadership cannot trust these two to be responsible spokesmen of their party in Sgforum and the like.

ditzy SG

It's still safer to stick to posting blogs, and if anyone shares differing views from yours, sue him for intrusion of privacy. Laughing Doesn't apply to everyone.

anonymouscoward SG

I don't like this but I agree with Oxford's view that for a party to be credible and to come across as a mature polictical party, members need to conduct themselves with respect. Robertteh and Atobe's posting are good example of putting forth mature arguments. Reason with reason.

Incidentially, while I admire Chia's passion for change, he has to project more self control and not portray to be a loose canon. I read his posting in other forums including this one and I'm not impressed. That is, if they were his postings.

The bold portion is incorrect. The underlined portion is hopelessly wrong.
