You can't lump 2 different religious festivals and then celebrate
them as if it is one and the same.
Any 'sanctimonious' religious identity need not be dragged along
when DeepaRaya is merely a social event dedicated as a tribute and
awareness of our festivals coinciding near. Besides, YOU DON'T WANT
FREE FOOD? PRATA! MURUKKU! BANDUNG! PINEAPPLE TARTS THATS SHAPED
LIKE NIPPLES!
This blatantly suggest a lack of respect for other religions. In
Malaysia, a similar idea was thrown around on integration
celebrations. This is largely frowned upon, notwithstanding the
perspective of a Muslim country.
Rather, where its frowned upon suggests theres a whole lot of
insecurity in faith. Its not a majority opinion up north anyway
where many Muslim leaders had since voiced their disagreements, not
to mention the Prime Minister himself, like the post above
mentioned.
That fly to spoil the pot of soup. Mood spoiler.
Happy DeepaRaya.
Has my faith changed saying that? Bah.
