It just seems that people, especially in the case of Muslims, are fiercely protective of the their Religion, Islam.

Cartoons and certain quotes would send them into street protest and start to bay for the blood of whoever said or drew anything even slightly offending to Islam... They seem to view critcism as an direct attack on their faith and start to have this siege mentality.

For other religion, such as Christianity, they seem to be more tolerant of criticism and view it as a test of their faith. Look at movies like Da Vinci code which actually doubts the origin of Christianity... Wonder what would happen if an similar show about Islam would Ignite?

Anyway, it would be best if we do not even comment on another's faith. Believe what you want but do not criticise what others want to believe. Applies for every religion.

there isn't any freedom. ultra-sensitive. use religion as a cause for violent protests. ridiculous. if every (person of any) religion would to take to the streets regarding innocuous comments said, then you could be sure there would not be any peace in this world.

You can never totally separate religion and politics. As Cardinal Jaime Sinn, Archbishop Emeritus of Manila said, both are about people-to-people interactions, and they need to be governed by morals. Various religions or a secular set of values dictate the latter.

Ask the Tamil Tigers about the Buddhist Sinhalese in Sri Lanka...race and religion have a way of getting mixed up in politics..an explosive brew.

Nobody should make any denigratory remarks about another's race or religion. I do not believe in unfettered freedom of speech and I totally support using the full force of the law to restrain such loose talk that threatens our peace and harmony.

That sums up exactly the situation for the majority of Muslims around the world now. They feel that their religion and beliefs are under siege ever since 9/11 and hence any comment that even vaguely resembles criticism will be interpreted as such. Hence it is important for people to be clear and careful about what they say regarding sensitive issues. Nevertheless, if people are already very touchy, anything one says might be misconstrued or even wilfully taken as offensive.

I agree that religion does play a part in civil war. Even those from different branches of Christianity are at each otehrs throats. Look at Ireland.

I truly believe, before we make statements about other religions, it is best to gain in depth knowledge and understanding first before making claims and statements.

The world's best debaters of religion are all scholars in this field. So if our knowledge is minimal, its best to keep it to ourselves. Mr. Green
