Not A Word Of Thanks From 'Xenophobic' Man

Well, gd points u guys have noted but I can't help but feel that he doesn't understand our culture enough even though he has a S'porean wife. Also got to take into account the westernised environment he grew up in.

Just like S'pore.....our leaders. They don't know what it's like to earn $1,500/mth and have 2, 3 mouths to feed. That's why they are still asking the avg S'porean to make babies.

I really would love to see a "free public transport week" just to get cars off the road for a greener environment or whatever. This govt is too profit oriented.

Maybe we shd start a reality show featuring Mah Bow Tan or Lee Hsien Loong earning $1,500/mth, taking public transport and staying HDB etc.

A simple word of thanks would have settled the whole issue.

But it is easy to mistake Buxton for a foreigner because of his looks, even if he has lived in SG for 16 or even 50 years.

Agree. Just a "thank you", that's all. Why be so upset that the "xenophobic" man did not say that? One gets the feeling that this "xenophobic" man said such a word to irritate our "kind" writer on purpose. As others have pointed out, "xenophobic" is not a usual term we use here. If you want to be kind, then don't be so keen on others' gratitude. Anyway, it is just helping to open a door, big deal.

Next time, if he wants to be courteous or kind and help open doors for people in Singapore, he'd best NOT expect any thanks from whoever he opened the door for.

Personally, I do help open doors or hold the elevator door open, but I NEVER expect any thanks from whoever.

I just help, and walk away promptly.

Don't EXPECT.

Uhh, kitty, by definition phobics generally avoid anything to do with their phobias, much less brag about them the object of the phobia. Maybe it's something to do with fear. Wink

yeah i know.. but u ever seen people who have phobia of .... say.. cats.. who go eating at hawker centre... in fear.. (cos socially NEED to go hawker centre to eat)... and when they see a cat within 1 m of them, they can't take their eyes off it... so doesn't mean u got phobia means u lose control of yourself ba...

I had a friend who nearly flip the entire table when she jumped up cos a cat rubbed its head against her legs. She got... catphobia.. whatever the scientific name for it is..

I also got leechphobia, when i see leech on my body, my mind blanks out and I freeze. But doesn't mean I avoid leech habitats cos bobian, like to go to those places.

Uh huh. They panic, and the behavioural patterns of a panic attack do not encompass those of our xenophobe. His behaviour, had it been a genuine phobia, would have been to do whatever it took to get away from Buxton. Instead, he stopped and asked what Buxton said, when he would have scurried away had he really been phobic. Later approached him in order to tell him about the xenophobia after the first encounter had already been disengaged. See the difference?

anyway... who ever uses that word in daily conversation?!

he showed the angmo his angmo also quite good leh.. and he didnt say something like 'Cos YOU ANGMOS MAKE ME BEH SONG!"
