No seriously, while property prices have tumbled during times of war, it does not change the fact that we are facing a severe shortage of space. Going vertical may not be enough, and private detached homes may soon become a thing of the past.

U feel the over population is due to the lack of land area in SG. and in HK u see the massive over crowded areas and small accomodations they are having is due to the reason that their land has too many mountainous areas. too many mountains for them to develop in.

thats y we feel that SG is over populated yet reports shows we are the 4th most dense country as compared to the rest of the world. less space results to less space to roam about.

the mrt squeeze is inevitable. so many ppl going work at the same time and the mrt can only be built to this size. its not hard to imagine the cramp.

shopping centers are displaying a sign of over population? if u are talking about tampines mall and century square or other heartland shopping centers. ask urself how big is the place actually? thats the reason for the cramp. town area u say? well think of the tourists we have here and seriously taka isnt really that big.

the flaw is that there is no cost of "natural resources"

there is no limit set to how much you can stripmine planet earth until it runs out

there is no limit set on how much you can pump poisons into the air/sea/land..

there is no limit set on how much you can dredge and trawl the seas..

there is no limit set on how much the capitalist can screw the earth, you and me...

and it's showing...

everytime there is some "legislation" to combat these things, the capitalists water it down to nothing and then continue their ravaging the resources of the world...

that, and there must be a limit to how much the planet can sustain... i think we are near that point.. yet, the economists tell us we must have more population...

As for Hong Kong and Macau, they have mass land of mountain and forest.How much forest and mountain we have as compared to them. We have only a Natural reserve in Bukit Timah. Anyway,they have more land if they include China.Their citizens can travel to many places in China. Even though we are the 4th densest after them.
As for us we are sticked to 692.7 sq km with millions of people. They are no place we can go except for Sentosa,St john,Kusu and Pulau Ubin. The rest of the islands are out of Bound. We are always struck in the "Little Red Dot"

sg is always copying another country's example for a short cut solution.
so why are we paying so much for copy-cat solutions.
I wonder if sg can sustain that kind of population with our existing infrastructure and land mass no matter how much we "upgrade" or expand.

If our gov is concerned about the growing number of old and aged citizens based on current population size, how are they going to cope with a larger population with MORE old and aged in future??

You think, with the new generation of young, "exceptional", and globally mobile children will stay around to take care of aged parents????

I still feel our gov has a few screws and nuts loose and rolling around somewhere.

seven million in singapore is nuts! i think singapore will fall one day, just one day. there are so many problems underneath the surface and the moral values of people nowadays are really…i dont think we can find true blue singaporeans willing to stay and fight for singapore. its scary
