Read both volumes ages ago.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't like some parts of the books. They
do explain why and how a lot of things in modern Singapore came to
be, and there was some sound and pragmatic thinking behind many of
the decisions made by the original PAP leaders like Rajaratnam and
Goh Keng Swee. I was particularly amused by the description of EW
Barker's nervousness when signing the agreement to split with
Malaysia.
That said, in the second volume, one cannot help thinking that
there was a trace of self-aggrandisement, what with claims of being
the origin of the "evil empire" tag for the Soviet Union and all.
Still, it is an autobiography, so why not?
