won the do-or-die balltle with Barisan_Sosialis_Party.

In 1959,OUT OF 1.6 MILLION population,about 300,000
lived in squatter areas and 250,000 in slums.
Taking over fr Sg Improvement Trust on 01.02.1960,
the HDB went on to complete 26,000 flats in slightly
over 3 years.By comparisons,the SIT built
23,019 in its 32 years of existence.
...(up to mar 1963),HDB built 31,317 units to house
350,000 or 20% ot population.
....by end of 1964,it completed 51,000 flats,providing
homes for about 25% of population.
