Atobe SG Originally posted by vito_corleone: how ironic that is in singapore life. did they also mention what's gonna happen to them if they go too deep Is there any irony about "singapore life" whether any mention is made about "what's gonna happen to them if they go too deep" ? Is there any irony when the Singapore Government - a.k.a the Ruling Political Party - has never tolerated any questions - from anyone that probe too deep - by giving any answers ? The irony exist when it takes a minister from the Ruling Party to say that "we should be questioning conventional wisdom" - when at the same time his task master(s) are abhorrent to Singaporeans questioning the Singaporean conventional wisdom as set forth by the "Task Master". Do you know what irony is all about ?
Atobe SG Originally posted by vito_corleone: oh c'mon everybody makes grammatical mistakes, even atobe There is a difference between obvious grammatical mistakes - from poor choice in the use of English to form sentences, and typographical error. "Typo-error" can happen when the mind think faster than the fingers typing the words, resulting missing a word or tow to form a coherent sentence. As in the missing word in the preceding sentence : "in" that should have been between the words - resulting and missing; and the typo-error in spelling in the word "tow", which should have been "two". How should one read the following ? Should the following highlighted in "red" - in your last post - be a fault in grammatical or typo-error ? claudetnt SG our students may be the Top students at some of the best u’s around the world but most of them are just good at studying for exams, talk to most of the civil servants(president, SAF and colombo plan scholars) aged below 40’s and you will know what i mean!
sohguanh SG Our educational system is as the first post very similar to ancient China Imperial exams for wen and wu Until there is another way to differentiate and determine a capable talent, paper exams are still the only way through. So like all ancient system, all junior potential ministerial talent will be attached to a senior minister to learn the ropes and then hope that in years to come, the junior would have learnt enuff to strike out on his own. Etc etc... Now is this system outdated? IMO, I would say it is but unless I can offer an alternative system to replace this outdated system and that will churn out good and great leaders, I just have to accept the existing educational system as the only way
lional88 SG o.o 17 nah. Anyway, back to the IS singapore education system outdated. hmm, what to do, this is by far the “best” . No comment.

[/b]the "that is", can be seperated with a commar. to make that sentence a "correct" one. didn't they teach you that in school? or did they teach engrish?
vito_corleone SG the examination still teaches some useful things but how they use the exams to select people of a "high level of competence" is another issue altogether". that's why u got idiots like mr (fill in the blank) who approved the construction of the nicoll highway even after german engineers whom they consulted deemed the ground too soft to support any structure of that size.
sohguanh SG Your reply reminds me of one criteria besides juz paper examinations. Practicals!!!! Yes I know in recent times practical exams are gaining more weightage in overall exam but it is not enuff. I hope to see at least a 50-50 practical weightage to guage a person capability. For your reply, the construction of the nicoll highway could be a practical exam for Mr BigShot to guage his performance. If he fails that practical then obviously he is not cut out for ministerial level. A ministerial level person should be BOTH theory and practical inclined to be fully useful to a nation. But after this incident we know the competence of that fellow and if he fails, then the money already spent inside how to recoup?
vito_corleone SG how to recoup ah...have you ever wondered why things are getting more expensive? there, you have your answer
