I think there are always a lot of thunder whenever it rains in Singapore.

Tropical storms.

Be careful though, we don't want a fried 5700.

when there's a storm with lightning flashing across the sky..

you hold a long long metal rod (think around 50 metres can liao), stand in the open field and point the rod towards the sky..

we, the remaining people will hide is some shelter with super long tele lens..think we can get some great capture.. Mr. Green

and maybe photos with captions like "jOhO and lightning" to be posted up here too =P

initially i have tried to take lightning photos.
damn difficult esp when my cam has serious AF problems.
anyway i had this idea of how to take lightning shots after my NDP shoot,

use B mode, aim at the sky. open shutter.
when lightning strikes.close shutter.
but aperature i dunno which 1 to use..
f/2.8?

anyway for lightning u can set the focus to infinity... anything closer and u'll probably get fried.

the "standard" way to take lightning is to keep the shutter open using bulb and use a black card to cover the lens when u dun want any light in.

unless u have to TOTALLY black sky then just leave it open and close it after one or more strikes?

I saw lots of lighting that day at hill street while I was taking my nite shot.
But I think must be fast enough. Otherwise hard to catch it.
And yah. Bring a BLACK cardboard. But dun touch the lens cos u dun wan to shake the camera.

actually taking lightning photos is purely based on luck..

focus your lens on inifinity and point the lens to an area with frequent flashes of lightning

set it to bulb (B) mode.. open the shutter and just wait.. it'll help if you have a cable release to close the shutter when u have afew flashes of lightning..
