i kind of feel that PAP are trying to brainwash our youth in school with subject like social studies, in poly, still got the f**king stupid modue call nation education. This is just my opinion though, you guys out there have your own.

Seriously, if all the PAP can do is use consumerism and branding, I'm still fearful that they might substantially influence the younger generation, who are very VERY receptive to slick packages and do not really look inside the ingredients' list.

It might lead to a stratification of the internet discussion environment.With their attitudes towards independant opinions crossing over from weblogs to mainstream media, it's not hard to see why partisan-ship favours them if they can co-opt views.

Personally, I am against Stomp.

Grab all major businesses in sinkapore where most singaporeans are working directly or indirectly for GLC, GIC, statutory board and temasick...so...ones that are working for these companies..will they dare to vote against pap? or the one's close relatives dare to vote against the ruling party? Not many things are said explicitly. Nation building may be one of the components, but in which direction? Angle is dictated by one group here, that's why there may be a spillover effect.

We as the people have to make sure this spillover doesn't happen too often.Nation building is not about one way of doing things and we've got to teach that to our kids.

How history is interpreted is always dictated by those in power. Hence 'point of view' is the right term to describe historical references.

Just look at how the Japanese gloss over their wartime atrocities, angering the Chinese and Koreans in the process? I don't mind if Koizumi visited his war shine to pay homage to the dead, but refusing to admit the past is as good as not taking responsibility for the actions of your countrymen.

Just like 'National education'. History of Singapore should equate to how a fishing village became a modern metropolis. As it is, there seems to be an over-emphasis on how the times were bad in the 60s and how the PAP came to power and cleaned up crime, corruption and brought safety and security to our shores.

It reads like a history textbook of the ruling party. People seem to be easily taken in by the subtle illusion that Singapore = PAP.

Take a look at this article from yawning bread: flags and monuments. It doesn't exactly use the word brainwash, but it offers a different viewpoint over how our patriotism is expressed, both subtly and visually.

There is something the Mussolini camp leveraged on when he took power, the use of iconoclasm and historiography as a tool to reach the masses and capitalise on their immediate past as a downtrodden people to bootstrap themselves into willing supporters of a regime that can make them feel strong and confident.

Iconoclasm is about the denial, be it physical or in the context of narrative's memory of the use of symbols, flags and monuments. This denial can be used to depoliticise a nation and re-craft it into a sterile fascist ideology.

Despite the facist party coming to power, no doubt supported in the wings by his friend and benefactor Adolf Hitler, Italians as a whole, rejected facism at the climax of WWII in europe.

Of course there are a minute few troublemakers who 'worship' facism leftover, just like the white supremists and Nazi skinheads in Germany. Even Mussolini's daughter is viewed with suspicion.

Italy has viewed its own humiliation enough, especially when it made the wrong allies and were 'colonized' for a time by allied forces. Italians have vowed never to repeat such naviety in the face of adversity.

They are more focus directly or indirectly on attracting investor and managing the GIC fund then any other issuse after the GE. So now expect most of the cost to increase.
