As if being robbed was not bad
enough
Defiant robbers taunt couple: Go ahead,
call police
April 29, 2006
GO on, take a good look at our faces.
Go on, remember our handphone numbers.
Go on, call the police.
That was how a trio of cocky robbers goaded a terrified couple they
forced off the road and robbed in Selangor on Sunday.
Unlike most bandits who don masks to conceal their identities,
these gangsters acted like they had nothing to hide, reported China
Press.
A couple were driving to a store on Sunday morning when they passed
a car parked by the side of the road.
Soon after, they noticed that the same car was following
them.
The husband drove faster in a bid to shake it off.
But the car behind sped up, overtook them and suddenly swerved in
front to block their way.
In his bid to avoid the car, the husband tried to reverse and
skidded off the road, trapping the car in mud.
Two robbers armed with parangs then leapt out of the other car and
ordered the couple to hand over their cash and valuables, including
the man's ATM card.
When the husband refused to tell them the PIN number, they made a
chopping motion and he gave in.
The robbers then took the couple to an abandoned house where two
stood guard while the third went to withdraw money.
He returned 15 minutes later with RM2,000 ($870).
As the trio left, one of the robbers taunted the couple to remember
the way they looked, and even listed a few handphone numbers.
He said they should memorise the numbers and go call the
police.
Their victims did exactly as they were instructed.
They made a police report as soon as the robbers left and were able
to recall the handphone numbers.
However, at press time, the police had been unable to locate the
men.
The couple lost a total of RM3,000.
Their ordeal was one of five car ambushes in Selangor over the past
week.
In each case, the victims were stopped while driving and had their
valuables taken.
