Why promote Foreign talents and not Local talents?

Is there one country where leaders keep worshipping only foreigners like ours whereas citizens are treated like guitters and nimcompoop.

You mean you do not know we have many talents who could not make good in our own land because of non-challent treatments by our own government.

We have many talents but it is as if our leaders are blind and simply cannot see them.

How many of our talents are groomed by our own government as compared with mediocre foreigners who are treated like gold.

Take our singing talents. How many of our real singing talents were groomed by our MediaCorp or government as compared with their making it on their own and recognised by others outside our land.

How many of our clean-room engineers approaching government for recognition or jobs are recognised by our government as compared with those who made it finally on their own better recognised and groomed in foreign soils.

How many management talents or consultants approached our own government agency were rejected as compared with foreign management consultants instantly given red carpet treatments by EDB/SPRING in seminars.

Even Fandi Ahmad had to be recognised by Dutch Football club before he was finally accepted by our own government.

Why not give more opportunities to your own local talents.

Is it because government leaders are not capable or talented in spotting own people's talents being of the same color or is it because they only promote their own kind and well-known foreigners for self-centred control and look-good presentations and don't really care except for their own positions.

Worshipping foreign talents? well, what about worshipping KTV hostess from China. They are foreign talents too. Then what about sport players? Local ones are not good enough to play? Is the government underestimating locals or are they puposely doing it to gain world recognition?

Examples of good foreign talents:
1) Foreign researchers to contribute to local industries eg bio-science
2) CEOs of major private companies in Singapore
3) Native chinese teachers from Beijing
4) Quan Yi Feng

and the list goes on

Examples of unecessary foreign talents:
1) Table tennis and badminton players
2) Football players
3) Any foreigner who comes in and take the same pay as a local whose contribution is potentially no less inferior

Examples of necessary foreign workers:
1) Thais and Bangladeshis
2) Filippino and Mainland Chinese nurses
3) Prostitutes but a limit to be imposed

Actually Robert, for once I disagree with you on talents.

In terms of commercial, engineering, and or medical talents, yes, in Singapore there are. But in terms of talents in the Performing Arts, I'd say it is very low.

Everybody is focused on education, paper-chasing for a bright future since the day they learned to walk. Where got time to nurture musical or singing talent??? Look at the USA, there are singers, & musicians on the streets who make a living simply basking up to 8 hours everyday 7 days a week. Those street talents can outshine anyone here hands down!

Anyone here focuses too much on playing music or singing, chances are, the house will be left without electricity or water supply! There simply is no REAL future for performing arts here!

True that only in certain sectors, our government should give local talents more credit and opportunity, instead of giving preferential treatment to foreign talents in the same field or industry.

I do not know, and dare not imagine, where such practice/mindset will lead to in the future of Singapore and our people. But it's symptoms are starting to show already, and yet our infamous government chooses NOT to SEE - still believing that they know what's best for us.

I believe that we need performing talents from outside too. But what I mean by "government seems to be promoting outside talents" refers to its general policy to recognise foreign talents quite indiscriminately to the extent of allowing too many jobs to be taken over by foreigners in almost every industry from technical to administrative and professionals.

When MOM first announced his S-pass schemes to admit foreign workers on some kind of skills or technical expertise, it is more than clear that the flood gate has been open to allow our employers to take in any foreign workers they want too liberally.

Who will be the victims? I think the victims would be our own technicians, polytechnic and ITE graduates and construction skilled workers who will lose their jobs to foreigners of sometimes lower skills on account of slightly cheaper wages.

Citizens support the government and pay for ministers' and civil servants' wages in good time and bad. They never try to employer foreign talents to be our ministers or civil servants even though foreign talents in such areas are much cheaper.

So government by the same token should not just foresake the citizens in bad time and try to open the flood gates to take away their jobs.

Alternative solutions to our high-cost problems are many e.g. re-designing of jobs to allow administrative and professionals to cover more areas of works which they can handle as being done to cleaners and security guards.

Don't quickly turn against your own citizens by coming up with all kinds of pro-foreign passes or what-not which may lose controls of proper balance of our citizenship rights and their entitlements to some benefits of using our surplus paid by them in good time to cushion against ill effects of downturns.

The above-stated more accountable labour policy is what I am asking the government to introduce and not all the pro-foreign passes to allow anyone to take in any foreign workers which are anti-citizenship and anti-people.

Wait til you attend a university job fair in Australia with Singaporean companies - they tell foreigners and bearing in mind those are just fresh graduates - that they said Immigration will give six months temp visa for them to find work easily .

That really defeats the foreign talent purpose - the policy was suppose to attract people with vast global experience to create jobs NOT some fresh foreign graduates. That is where I oppose the foreign talent policy strongly because it just says that our own grads are not good enough.

I won't call foreign construction workers foreign talents - they are just foreign workers doing jobs that no singaporean wants to do.

I thought some companies also organized recruiting campaign at NUS or NTU.
Anybody can figure how come some companies prefer to hire foreiners? Neutral

Possible reasons: they require specialised skills that we lack (biotechnology, robotics and certain IT fields like software design), they do not have to do reservist, they are willing to accept lower pay and as foreigners, can be sacked more easily, they are more willing to be posted overseas...

I am not saying these are the reasons but I think as an employer those would be some of my considerations...

Of course...not only in Sg...Plenty of Filipino nurses in UK hospitals as well, including centres of excellence such as Oxford.

there're certain areas whereby we need foreign workers to assist us.

however, the other reason of why foreign workers are given a place here is partly because many of us are somewhat incompetent. sadly, i must agree with this.

nevertheless, in order to win over foreign talents, we need to step out and make full use of our talents and maximize our potentials to make this a better place.
