Never mind about that. For those who want a casino here, have you done your research thoroughly? Don't just write off "social cost" so easily; PAP knows they could not argue against the apparent high "social cost", thus, they just say it is not about social cost vs economic gains. That's cool and neat but simply put it, they are just sweeping the dirt below the carpet!

Of course, with a twist, they say it is about OUR MATURITY as a society! Cool. Nobody wants to be seen as "immature" and not agreeing to have a Casino would be seen as "IMMATURE"! Hahaha. That's strange. If you know the odds of losing in a casino, any MATURE human being will not be visiting the casino! Then, the most important question to ask is, why have a casino in the very first place to hoodwink those "IMMATURE" ones? Wink

I would suggest for those who thinks Casino could bring in all the monies, do some research first. Try to do a search on googles with "NGISC", short form for "National Gambling Impact Studies Commission". This is a study commissioned by the world's most liberal govt on earth, USA. See for yourselves what's in it for us if we go ahead with a casino.

And strategically speaking, we will all become suckers in the end of the day. I will touch on this later.

It does. Recall the case a widow fought to get CPF pay off the insurance of her dead husband so she could keep her 4rm flat. The public were upset by how CPF handled the claim and at the end CPF paid. Recall the initial solution to CTE jam was more ERP. The upset drivers made enough noise to make LTA change the plan.

This casino issue is one of the non-political yet socially significant topic that touch many people's concern. This may be the one thing that will connect all social sectors and spark the civil right movement in S'pore.

While the Gov argues that it is for the individuals in this mature society to decide whether they want to gamble at home, it is also for the individuals in this mature society to decide whether they want to raise their families in a society that makes money out of casino. Now it become a person's individual rights vs another person's individual rights. In democratic society, it is settled by the majority will.

Even with all the reports and consultations made, the real debate on the casino issue has not started yet.

We can have a casino but nobody is pointing a gun at you to ask you to gamble. But really who cares at least some singaporean guy mebbe a broke retiree gets a job and new lease of life and the foreign investor foots the bill if the investment sours.

frankly… u r not removing gambling from our society even if the casino is banned. There r singapore pool, turf club, betting on soccer, cruise ships, genting and mahjong in singapore. People gamble… especially chinese… I don’t like my children to be gambler but sadly, even my father do gamble on 4 D or big sweep.

In the past, if a person suffer heavy losses n owns the casino lots of money, the person can return to singapore n the foreign casino can do nothing to him/her.

If a casino can operate in singapore, singapore will need to change its laws so that whoever owns casino money in anywhere of the world, must pay up. No more escape liao Cool

my father has xiao du. Am I now qin jia dang chang ? I thoguht about 30% of singaporean do gamble regularly such as toto, 4D, soccer, jackpot or turf. So these 30% qin jian dang chang meh... Frankly the casino can also aimed to get tourist money. It may make u better off.. .

I not very sure but I don't think the casino lend people any money in the first place. U got to use your money and buy the chips before u can gamble isn't it ? The one who lend money is probably some illegal money lender...
