i won't if nobody starts it. look at it. we were supposed to discuss the issue. End up with one fella who 1st shoots me pointlessly just for being abroad, EVEN when others here have told him being abroad is not an obstacle towards loyalty and civil-activism. Then the same person goes on to speculate my gender in a disrespectful manner?

And u have someone else asking for some proof of something that cannot be allowed to see the light of the day because of the need to protect key witnesses, and he asks for it knowing full well the proof cannot be provided for the aforementioned reasons, and has the cheek to be smug about it.

Like I said, looking at these people, Sg's future looks bleak, and that is not just a privately held view. This is a widely held sentiment. Besides, u know about the inquiry do u not? U know I'm telling the truth. I have people who can back me up on this.

I'm all for the heavy punishment of NS defaulters(I personally thought Melvin Tan got away too lightly) but I'm not against granting deferments for people who choose to pursue their dreams, provided they return to serve at the end of the day. And if they choose to default, so be it. No point forcing people who do not want to stay right?

Maybe Mindef could compromise and stagger NS into 6-months slots and anyone can apply to defer to 1 yr. That is, do 6-months, defer 1 yr, do another 6-months, defer for 1 yr, do 6-months, defer 1-yr and do the final 6-months.
This is only for the special talent like our violinist.

The NS obligation is served and the talented gets to keep pace with their skill, education.

Why must be 2 consecutive years of NS? Time for the NS policy to adapt to changing times.

Just serve his national service and that it. If he doesn’t want to serve, then just move to other country or must as well commit suicide. This way no need to serve for sure…

they honestly should cut the crap and do away with all the time wasting..i’ve heard ns-men tell me more than 1 of the 2 years is actually productive. cut it down to 1 year, compact, efficient training.

av98m, I just wish to state that I agree with you that Melvyn Tan got away too lightly. Good that Mindef has now tightened the regulations and stiffened the punishments.
