What is the meaning of Overdrive (O/D)?

Hi guys,

Does anyone know the meaning of the overdrive (O/D) function of a car?

Do I leave it On or Off?

over-drive means stop after stop line.

hence, you OVER drive lor.

basically it means a higher gear where you can cruise at a higher speed but at a lower engine speed.

Leave it on,usually cars with O/D switch is those older Japanese cars with 4 speed Auto,if O/D is off,it means it will only upshift to 3rd gear..
