Panting heavily, legs pumping, sweat stinging his eyes, but
Desmond kept pushing himself. He loved feeling the cold breeze
against his body, whistling in his ears. T-shirt flapping noisily
against the resistance, he bent his body forward in preparation for
the next corner. Without slowing down, he leaned sharply. The next
thing he knew, Desmond was sliding on the bicycle track. He didn't
see a patch of sand on the ground till it was too late, and he lost
control of his bicycle. Groaning in pain, he sat up to inspect his
wounds. Nothing more than a scraped elbow, cut knee, and bruised
ego here.
"Desmond!" Rie couldn't match Desmond's speed, so it took some time
for her to catch up with him. "Are you alright?" She grabbed hold
of his arm, looking worriedly at the wounds that were caked in sand
and blood.
"Yah don't worry. I think there's a toilet up ahead. I can go there
to clean my wounds."
"OK, but after that come over to my place and I'll bandage up your
elbow and knee."
***
"That's what you get for going so fast." They were back at Rie's
place, and she was looking for her first-aid kit.
Desmond laughed it off, "I just wanted to give myself a workout.
Plus the feeling of speed is exhilarating."
"But you should know you limits what. Give me your arm." Rie pulled
him close as she started to wrap the first aid dressing over his
elbow. Desmond felt his heart beat faster. He had never been this
close to her before. He could feel her warm breath on his arm, and
the silence of the living room only reminded him even more that
they were alone. His heart ached for her, but he didn't dare to say
anything. Surely, she wouldn't like someone like me?
After Rie finished with his elbow, she proceeded to wrap his knee.
She leaned forward, and unwittingly exposed herself to him. Desmond
stared down her t-shirt for a few seconds, but quickly looked away.
Bastard!, he screamed
inwardly, She's helping you, and you take advantage of her! What
kind of person are you?
"Erm Rie
don't worry I think I can handle it."
"Oh OK. I'll pour you a drink." She smiled.
Desmond breathed heavily through gritted teeth, kicking himself for
being such a pervert, while he wrapped the bandage forcefully
around his knee.
"Wah you wrap it so tightly, how can blood flow to your feet
haha."
Desmond reached out for the glass of water. His anger was fast
subsiding, replaced by a warm feeling in his heart when he
remembered how worried Rie had been when he injured himself, and
how she bandaged his wounds.
"Thanks Rie." They looked at each other for awhile, smiling,
neither of them saying anything. Then she looked away.
Desmond cleared his throat, "I think I better make a move then. I
er
still have some school work to finish."
"OK then." Rie walked to the door, "Better take care of yourself
huh."
"Yup. Thanks. See you in school tomorrow."
"See you on the bus you mean haha. Bye."
"Bye."
