Laughing I think all unionist had done a great jobs for local singaporean worker, PR workers. Just wonder whether they cover foreigner workers. I think they should. Anyone can help to clarify? Appreciated.

Tripartism on the surface is fine as it is a gentler way to bring about peaceful settlements of disputes between employers and employees without disruption by industrial actions like boycott etc.

But it has many unspoken underlying meanings or conventions as well about being non-confrontational and non-interfering in the right of the employer to hire and fire employees.

Given such general labour law, no wonder many employers in Singapore have no hesitation in refusing to pay retrenchment benefits except to unionised employees. In many cases, employees are fired without proper procedures being followed often wrongfully? How many wronged employees will be able except in limited cases involving collective agreement, turn to MOM for redress when his employer refuses to pay his entitled 13th month or other agreed benefits. More often than not the aggrieved employees will have to face arbitrary actions by the employers who regard it as his right to terminate contract by notice without the employee being given a fair hearing or defence except in conducting justice through his own expensive legal process.

glad that you are happy with your NTUC even when your employers are retrenching your fellow colleagues. dont you feel the union should be there to prevent it from happening instead of assisting your employer setting retrenchment packages?
did you ever question why no minimum wages was ever set?
did you ever question why so many union leader are in the PAP elite club?
do they need to be in the elite club to speak out for the unionist?
did you ever question why union leader need to wear 2 hats/ 3 hats? if that is so how to do they strike a balance between party and union when difficult issues relating to tripatite arises? or their only solution is simple asking you unionist to compromise, wage cuts, lower CPF. accept reality of retrenchment.
sorry bro, i am not a unionist. because i am not, that why i cannot understand what unionist in singapore is really care for? NTUC supermarket points rebates? chalets? insurance subisides? childcare ? so that ppl like you will not probe into sensitive issues relating to what the union is set up for. labour movement.

Today is May Day and it's the day to celebrate labour moment every where. We do our part to wish them many good years only.

I am not in the position to say anything..as I am an executive and no an unionist..hence very difficult to answer your question.
