SINGAPORE : Three new faces are part of the five-member team
which will be contesting in Tampines GRC under the Singapore
Democratic Alliance banner.
Team members have challenged the People's Action Party to go full
time to serve residents, just as they plan to if elected.
SDA's Tampines team, led by Lim Tung Hee, will roll out a strategy
called the Tampines "8 Golden Paths".
It outlines broad issues they hope to tackle, like offering
affordable healthcare, social security and improving the living
environment.
The group will also feature Tan Lead Shake and three
newcomers.
Among them is 33-year-old Edmund Ng Say Eng, who heads a
recruitment company for IT professionals.
He is married with an 11-year-old son, and takes interest in
helping the less privileged find jobs.
Mr Ng and his running mates will quit their jobs to give residents
their full attention if elected.
Said Mr Ng, "We'll have a system to have a standby. The residents
just need to dial a number and it will be diverted to anyone of the
five MPs' handphone numbers. And we dare the PAP, challenge the PAP
candidates to meet this commitment as well."
Another first-timer is 54-year-old Abdul Rahman Mohamad, a
consultant in fire engineering and safety.
He is married with six children.
Mr Abdul Rahman hopes to look at some policies to help the Malay
Muslims community.
Said Mr Abdul Rahman, "Some have been left out in the pursuit of
development, left behind, so you see these what we call
socio-economic problems with the Malays related to their education,
their wealth, their unemployment and related to the education of
their children."
Fifty-nine-year-old Ong Hock Siong wants to highlight issues
relating to medical care and employment.
Mr Ong, a marketing advisor with a China company, is married with
two children.
Said Mr Ong, "The $300 to be withdrawn from the Medisave account is
far insufficient for those suffering from chronic disease. On
foreign talent, I think there is a lack of definition of what
foreign talent is all about."
The team said they would give more details of their plans at the
election rallies.
SDA is expected to introduce its team for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC on
Wednesday. - CNA /ct
