Atobe SG It took us a while before we truly recognised your "no brainer" capacity - and it must be some innate quality that only you have, that allow you to perceive so quickly those "no brainers" across the Straits of Johor. It must be your conscientious effort at being stupid that makes you such an outspoken "no brainer" with your characteristic "one liners". .
Atobe SG Originally posted by sbst275: Well, they used price to lure Yet Evergreen seems to be making closer ties with PSA instead For this, Maersk now uses PPT though there are occasions they use Keppel Ter due to their priority berthing needsIt is all about economics - which was supposed to be the self-boasted specialty of a tertiary educated "no brainer" in this forum. . If someone can lure you over with price alone, surely Maersk and Evergreen must have looked beyond price before spending MILLIONS to move from Singapore to PPT. . Those economists at Maersk and Evergreen must surely be better trained than the self-declared "no brainer" economist that we have in this sgForum - whose ability to "whine" about others is the only other feature that is the more prominent than the hallmark stupidity of his "no brainer" characteristics. .
sbst275 SG The reality is they used price to lure Maersk was with the 30% stake Evergreen? Cos that time it was in poor finanical health...
Atobe SG Originally posted by sbst275: The reality is they used price to lure Maersk was with the 30% stake Evergreen? Cos that time it was in poor finanical health...Yes, price is a factor, but there must be more then ONE factor to justify spending MILLIONS more to move operation base and start a new operational set up. The fact that they return to Singapore was also due to the sudden awakening of some "no brainer" at PSA that Singapore has to be more competitive and lower our PRICE to Maersk and Evergreen - so as to LURE them back. Was price the sole determining factor in the partial return of these shipping lines to Singapore ?
sgdiehard SG Maersk decided based on price and rights in managing the berths. Evergreen decided solely on price. The ppl in PSA were not 'no brainer', like Yeo Ning Hong, they were arrogant. If the cynic bridge does enhance our competitor's position, then we really need "brains" in our decision, not just heart to improve friendship and provide convenience for the commuters.
sbst275 SG I dun think is price Actually Maersk since they have accquired P&O Ned, they had to honor what P&O committed the container fig to PSA, hence many Svs have shifted port rotation call to PSA. I mean they could have just make PSA as the empty container storage yard Even so, the shift of the many feeder svs I believe is to break the double calling at both PSA and PTP.. Esp feeder ships, it is very inefficient if there are double calling at both PSA and PTP... Time becomes a constrain as these ships has to complete 7 day rotation like PSA - PTP - Songkhla (Thailand) - Sihanoukville (Cambodia) - PSA... If PTP is skipped, containers can be concentrated at PSA and the ship need not waste time to call PTP for another batch of containers It is possible as Maersk do have a ship called SIMA EXPRESS that makes thrice weekly call haul bet PTP and PSA
sbst275 SG In terms of managing berths, it was sweetened by a 30% stake in PTP But aft many years, Maersk could not get what they what, to make PTP into a mega transhipment hub as big as PSA... Why? Because they are given 30% stake instead of dedicated berths, other smaller main lines becomes less attracted no matter how cheaper the rate may be aft 2002 See what has happened to Evergreen now? Last time @ PSA, they were given berth on arrival, now @ PTP, they have to wait till the Maersk ship is cleared. Pity that Evergreen chose PTP instead and found their sv std the hard way... Port Klang is a better alternate port Yeo Ning Hong that's why he left Again the bridge dun listen to Johor ppl cos they have forgotten Pasir Gudang and PTP are served by different shipping lines... In the 1st place, who will make double port call @ Johor? They just talk these just to please that Johor MB lah
sbst275 SG Evergreen's terminal agreement with PTP is likely to end Aug 2007 next yr... So fast 5 years have went past... As I can see the new svs Evergreen has introduced, there is a chance they run back to PSA As for Maersk, their position makes them harder to move back cos of the stake... However, in a report last yr, Maersk hopes for better relations with PSA in years to come in its Singapore Terminal
Salman SG Seems like the no brainers are the Msians. They have to give 30% stake and still end up with marginal traffic. The worst thing is, they cannot even keep customers with their selling the house type sales tactics. Will singapore be so brainless as to help them along by building a new bridge? Maybe a no brainer like Atobe would, not Singaporeans though.

Can we depend on your reputed quality in statistical analysis ? . Is 30% stake a big deal ? . Is that a "magic percentage" that will generate traffic ? . Can we believe your brilliant assessment that only Atobe is a "no brainer" to help the Malaysians to build the bridge ? . Can we depend on your brilliance in judgment that Singaporeans will not support the bridge ? . If the bridge is to be proceeded with, perhaps all Singaporeans will be "no brainers" too ? . You do not beleive that this Bridge will be built ? . When the bridge is decided upon and proceeded with by your beloved PAPa, we shall see where the title of SUPREMO "NO BRAINER" will rest on. . Meanwhile, a "no brainer" will always be one, can you avoid the shadow that you cast with your "brilliance" ? .
Salman SG singapore don't need to give away aby stake at all and get even more traffic, we are smarter than the msians. smaer enuf not to build the bridge
Atobe SG Originally posted by Salman: singapore don't need to give away aby stake at all and get even more traffic, we are smarter than the msians. smaer enuf not to build the bridgeFortunately, not all Singaporeans are "no brainers" and most will surely know when to be "smaer enuf not to build the bridge", and when to begin to build. At the end of the day, the bridge will be built - when both sides have calmly disposed off all the remaining burning issues that have hamstrung the present series of negotiations. .
sbst275 SG As the compeition bet PTP and PSA goes on, PTP is clearly on the losing end With only 2 shipping lines, 1 that is loose now, they are unable to offer much facilities like bunkering though they are building them If their MISC, subsidary of Petronas had said PTP is not in a good location to offer bunkering facilities, even if they insist on building it, there would not be much sucess...
Salman SG Thats the problem when you have crony economy. Projects are not well assessed and nonsensical investments were made with public money. They simply build build build cos its a way to milk the country. They even give the house away in desperation for business and still end up short. How to make money like that?
sbst275 SG No lah You see Dr Mahathir... He said Malaysia or Johor can be as stragetic as Singapore... But you see, they thought just build a container port in Johor can like... Their working attitude is "Boleh makan, boleh"... They never thought of facilities like bunkering...
Atobe SG The danger with conceit is that it breeds complacency and blindness. If Malaysia is a crony economy, and despite having a population size that is five times more than Singapore, a land mass that is probably zillion times bigger, and with natural resources thrown in - Malaysia had put up a remarkable performance for 2005. From the CIA Fact book, the take for both countries - Malaysia and Singapore Malaysia Population Size:23,953,136 (July 2005est) GDP - Real Growth: 5.1% (2005 est) Labor Force: 10.67 Million Unemployment Rate: 3.6% Singapore Population Size: 4,425,720 (July 2005 est) GDP - Real Growth: 4.5% (2005 est) Labor Force: 2.19 million Unemployment Rate: 3.4% From the published figures - can anyone find Malaysia being short ?
Salman SG Why did you hide the GDP and per capita GDP figures and see how we compare to that crony economy with vast natural resources?
