With the Chief Justice YPH stepping down at the age of 80, and Tony Tan finally leaving politics at the YOUNG age of 70plus, and more MPs leaving politics at even YOUNGER age of 50s and 60s, when will the 82 year old MM LKY leave the political scene ?

What possibly can be the reason for him to hang on to the GIC Chair, and to Tanjong Pagar Constituency - (which he hardly appear to perform his MP duties, which are handled by a proxy aka a stand-in) ?

Are there skeletons in the cupboard that need to be hidden for generations to come, which explains for his insistence in staying on in politics, and holding on to the strings to political power ?

Could the reason for a strong ONE PARTY DOMINANCE is to prevent any Opposition Party from coming into Power and discover the vast amount of abuses and losses that have never seen daylight ?

It took the overthrow of Sadam Hussein to discover the abuses of his decades in power in Iraq, and it took the overthrow of Ferdinand Marcos to discover the 2000 pairs of shoes in the cupboard that Imelda Marcos bought with Public Funds besides the other shocking abuse of power in the Philippines by the First Family locking the nation in Martial Law for decades.

What will we find in our Singapore Political Cabinet if ever a new Political Party take over the reins of Government ?

In the 1970s and late 1980s, average singaporeans were too busy tackling daily bread and butter issues to be bothered by politics. To them the idea of a strong and stable government to bring about political stability was appealing.

Nowadays, we are all living comfortably in a safe and pretty luxurious environment, and with better education we begin to question the governments policy.

But one party rule will never last. Even now, more and more well educated people are becoming wary of the government's suppressing oppostion policy.

Don't know about the Chief Justice, but Tony Tan had wanted to quit politics long ago...in fact, he was brought back after he left for the private sector when LHL contracted cancer..

It is indeed astute to notice that after the rule of several regional 'IRON' leaders in Suharto and Marcos, a ton of closet skeletons were dug up which implicated the very leaders who claimed honesty and transparency.

Will we see the same situation in SG after Lee Senior steps down, when and if he does? Hardly. The media and other elements of information have been kept on so short a leash that any evidence of mishandling or abuse of power will be kept under tight wraps, if any such issues exists.

The fact that people nowadays are either less interested in local politics or too fearful of it and its reprisals merely outlines the underlying oppressive nature of the govt: fear of speaking, acting or infinging beyond certain obscure OB markers.
