Wah.Air control equipment costs RM 50m, but terminal costs RM
100m!
KLIA takes a step backwards. When the Kuala Lumpur
International Airports newest terminal opens in two
weeks,(LOW COST CARRIER TERMINAL:LCCT --KLIA) air traffic
controllers posted there will return to the days of the Sultan
Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Airport.
In the seven-storey tower, controllers will use sight and radio
communication with pilots to track aircraft movement in the
area.
They need to punch this information into a workstation before the
aircraft appear as blips on their screens.
To return to the semi-automated working mode at the RM100 million
low-cost carrier terminal (LCCT) is a step backwards, they
said.
However, the KLIA LCCT will open without the RM50 million worth of
equipment needed there.
Air traffic controllers posted to work at the LCCT have been
worried that without the equipment, delays and congestion would
result.

Civil Aviation Air
Traffic Control Services Union president Wan Muhaimin Wan Jamil was
quoted as saying he feared the LCCT would not be fully equipped by
the date, despite the ministry approving the request for more
than RM50 million worth of equipment and facilities in 2005.
Wan Muhaimin claimed that the tender has not even been awarded and
it would take 10 months before work at the traffic control tower is
completed.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy Chan said: "The
director-general and the secretary-general will be issuing a
warning to stop such rumours, and investigate to take
action.

5.Just a warning if u use the LCCT and ur connecting flight is in
KLIA.
I read fr news that they are 20 km away fr the main terminal
building.
That means it take at least 20 mins drive lah.
Look at this map.I think
LCCT and main terminal bldg is far apartLCCT seems in
the other corner.
U need to take a big round.
Allow more time for connecting flight there.
Dunt expect like Changi.
6.INTER TERMINAL TRANSFER PROCEDURE
The LCC Terminal will operate on a point-to-point travel basis
in line with the low-cost travel business model. There is no
interlining arrangement between the Low Cost Airlines at the LCC
Terminal and other Airlines that operate at the Main Terminal
Building of KLIA.
Passengers who require Terminal Transfer for their connecting
flight should obtain Custom, immigration & Quarantine (CIQ)
clearance (for International Arrival) and claim their luggage prior
to check in for the connecting flight at the other terminal.
Complimentary shuttle service between the LCC Terminal and the Main
Terminal Building (MTB) (vice versa) is provided for passengers on
inter-terminal connecting flights. Passengers are required to
present their flight ticket at the Shuttle Service Registration
Counter to be eligible for this service.
