I think the MOE should offer Pure Sciences subjects to those who are in NA. Those students who are in NA might have done and have passion for Sciences but because of the result of theirs, they could not take up Pure Sciences. It’s such a sad case. It happened to me before. So I know how it feel to be like one of them.

despondent, science always go hand-in-hand with maths. You cannot fail maths yet want to do science. There are a lot of statistics, a lot of calculations.

All-rounded doesn't mean you study all kinds of things. All-rounded means you are good in studies as well as other areas such as sports or arts.

in case u do nt noe, science dun go hand-in-hand wif maths in america…i am one who excel in maths but do badly in science…so wad then? do i have to give up maths since schools dun allow me to take science when i am bad at it? science n maths go hand-in-hand cos its always been like tis in singapore…nt in foreign countries. if one is talented in music n come from a poor family…how is he gonna to expand his talent when singapore’s music industry is so small? wait for sponsors? wait til he is older n pay his way there? by then, he wil be many yrs behind other fellow musicians!

I won't dispute the fact that Singapore's music industry is small.

But I don't agree with you that science don't go hand-in-hand with maths. Before poly, I used to think so. After poly, I realized the difference. I studied some general modules in my first year. I thought chemistry had little to do with maths, like in secondary school. The first year proved me wrong. I had to do a lot of calculations. You have to find angles (relating to chirality). Without a maths background, you would find it hard to understand. So is technology. You think those numbers have no use. Until you try your hands on writing a program, you never know.

so wad can the system offer me when these 2 subjects muz go hand-in-hand? cos of science, i had to give up pursuing maths at a higher level…n if one is reallli gd at science for instance, y muz he study humanities, which is of no interest to him? in amreica, if u realli like a particular area of studies, u can pursue it all the way without disturbance from other non-related subjects…look at singapore maths olympiad…gold medal winners at a tender age…but unheard in the end in the world of maths…y? cos they were nt given enuff opportunity to expand their talents…we onli have 24 hrs a day…to study 8 other subjects nt directly related to maths takes precious time a way from expanding the mathematical talents…same can be said for any othe subject which ppl excel in…

At lower level, as seen in my secondary school days, maths and science basically have no relationship. It's only at higher levels that you see the relationship and regret that you can't pursue science/maths because you are weak in either.

He may not be interested in humanities, which has no direct link with his science subjects. However, that is only if he is interested in subjects like physics, chemistry etc. What if he is interested in geophysics? He needs to know geography well. That's where humanities come into play. I would prefer that humanities is not compulsory, unless it is direct relationship with the studies. That's my view.

ok…anyway, i noe of many who say the system is too rigid n too exam-focus…its true the govt is doing sth abt tat nw…n if there wasnt anything wrong wif the system, y is the govt trying to change it albeit gradually? its also difficult to make a change cos singaporean mindset has alredi benn moulded according to the old system over the past 40 yrs. tat explains y we can nvr catch up wif amreica n japan…even china is catching up wif us…

i feel that i prefer old fashion ways for education system. these days they mentioned ‘state of arts’ and it is piles of BS. u become an all-rounder but u r master of none since u cant define ur specialty on.

SINGAPOREANS n AMERICANS r diff la, wat kind of system do u wan to follow? they can grab a gun as n when they like... singapore? even in SAF, u a fake gun from overseas training, u will kenna confinement!

moreover, it's been said long ago our education system will change to suit every talent's need. eg, sports sch has already been rounded to train the sporty singaporeans. n den this jump straight to A level system oso implemented, but to the autonomous sch only first. whY? cos other schs, neighbourhood or govt, still facing problems with student with attitude problem, financial needs etc...

yes, i agree even now a raffles boy join gang. but ur academic, n ur sch's image has nothing to do with it. they're only affected aft u join the gang. so wat has gone wrong even before u join the gang? UR ATTITUDE has to be changed!

it's a new era, changes are also came from students who have diff perspectives. do u think that there would only be a kind of system that will suit to everyone? even Polytechnics have oso implemented new learning system. the PBL - problem based learning.
