i want to use this thread to ask a qns. even my earlier post explained what grassroots means, i still dont get the concept.

Is grassroots meant to be purely a way for ordinary people to improve their community, or can politics interfere in it?

Grassroots means an outpost of the People's Association which is run by civil servants and controlled by government. That's why Sitoh is adviser to Potong Pasir grassroots, working to undermine Chiam, the elected MP.

If you work in the grassroots as a volunteer, you'd also be invited to join PAP. Of course, you can decline the invitation if you are a strictly non-partisan volunteer.

but having these 2 PAP men there is kinda like undermining Chiam See Tong and Low Thia Kiang..Whatever these 2 men do, they need not 'report' to the MPs there, and even though it benefits the residents there(as seen in the extra bus service etc), what it does is make the 2 opposition MPs look weak, insignificant in contrast.

But on the other hand, PAP is shooting itself in the foot. Resident will say why should they vote for the PAP, since in the end, they will still get the benefits. They might just as well continue to vote for the opposition!

Yeah. If Singaporeans were smart they would vote more opposition members into Parliament. After all, if the PAP lost another ward or constituency, they would be sending their people to go all out to woo the residents to try vote them in for the next election.

Think about all the goodies that the residents will receive.

This way the tables are turned, the PAP actually will be working for the residents instead of the other way round.

As it is, currently all constituencies held by the PAP only get goodies during election time. The rest of the time, you don't get to see any of the MPs around. Laughing

Actually the “abalone” porridge compagin should be extended to all other GRCs in Singapore mah, then all the aunties no need to rush all the way from Sengkang to Potong Pasir for the “abalone porridge” .......hehehehe….
