My vote for the coming elections

I had my doubts about this article when I read it in the Straits Times. I mean, a stroke requires immediate medical attention, and no preferential treatment...

I will vote for anyone who will promise me a less stressful life, affordable healthcare, and no casino.

My life is too stressed, and I will be paying a big sum for my mom's hospitalisation ,,,,, ( 2 months in hospital)........I feel the rich are getting richer....job promotions are reserved for scholars,,,,,,,too many foreigners......

I am ashamed my country has to resort to gambling to earn money........so how to vote?

If our country didnt have the integrated resorts, our GDP could be greivously hurt. Without the casinos, our property market still be in the slump. Think of the greater good please.

If no casino, surely vote for them. There are other ways to earn money. Anyway, too young to vote. By the time I can vote, there will always be walkovers. Because of LHL. He’s in my GRC.

yea but the bad side of casino is tat once u started to gamble, u cannot stop. if you win abit, u will keep on playing until u lose. than u go ur atm n withdraw more $$ hoping to fight back ur losses. most of the ppl will lose and go borrow their family, fren, loan sharks. those retirees will take their cpf money to gamble and most of the time will lose and they will b left with NOTHING!!!. so their cpf money goes into the government's pocket!!! all our heart earn money also goes into the government's pocket!!!

Anyone can build those casinos - surely any political party can build those casinos based on similar conditions ?

You will vote for them so that they can have a controlling share of the casino business and pay their own cronies more Million Dollar salaries ?

well for me,it is actually like will you want to face any possible consequences if you do not vote for them?

i have the privilege of having my area actually contested in the last election,and guess what there are serial numbers on each person's vote slip,so meaning it is possible to be traced on who you actually voted for?

Not that it has actually affected me as the opposition party candidate in my area is that Dr Chee whom i do not have any liking for,but even if someone in my area actually like him,they may think twice on voting him due to possible traceable voting....

The serial numbers on voter slip is a "NON-ISSUE' and has been a 'fear' that the Ruling Party has allowed to fester despite all the assurance given by the Ruling Party and the Opposition Parties.

Firstly, the "serial number" serves as a "controller' to prevent false ballot paper being stuffed into ballot boxes by any one party.

Secondly, while it can allow both the Ruling Party and the Opposition Party to verify the ballot paper as being 'real' or 'otherwise' - any attempt to trace the voter will require the ballot box being seized from the High Court and from the Election Officials.

Thirdly, even if the above remote situation can be a possibility - what can the Ruling Party do to all the hundred over thousand voters from this constituency ?

Forthly, any punitive action taken against the constituency will probably take the form of removal of communal and social amenities - such as demolishing existing markets and community halls that the constituents have been accustomed to - as had occurred in Seletar Estate, which gave the Opposition strong support and the Ruling Party winning the election by the narrowest margin ever.

Fifthly, the other punitive action that the Ruling Party will take is to dilute the heavily influenced Opposition supporters in any single constituency by redrawing the election boundary, and eliminating your ward or constituency altogether - dividing and merging your constituents to meld into other wards or constituency that favor the Ruling Party.

It is by succumbing to such unnecessary fear of the "Serial Numbers" that have got us to be enslaved to the arrogant rule of the present Ruling Political Party.

If others have made sacrifices to stand up and be counted for the sake of our future, can we not make a little sacrifice by NOT SUBMITTING to the fear of some 'digits' printed at the back of the voting slip - which had its original objective of preventing fraud in the election process ?

Well why then a serial number to authenticate the voting slip?Surely something like a symbol/stamp/special type of paper used for the voting slip would be better?What is so special about serial numbers that make it the only choice for authentication?

And i and the majority of voters are not as well informed as you are on the legality of such issue,so the fear is that you will have a blackmark somewhere in some files held by the govt and may affect your chances later in getting a flat or other stuff that have to go thru the govt.

So unless there is really some credible oppostion party whom the people really think can take over from PAP,you can be sure that people will err on the side of caution and not risk any possible consequences.

I say no casino then vote for them. I really cannot imagine having other political parties to lead us. Bad as my reply is, but I really feel insecure.

My Opinion:

I won't vote for the SDP

The Chairman, Mr Chee Soon Juan is spoiling the image of Singapore and not doing any good for Singapore.

He just complain about Singapore problems to other countries
