depressed SG MORE GOOD YEARS FROM THE PAP! INCREASED STANDARD OF LIVING! Electricity tariff will increase by an average of 1.45 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh) for the first three months of next year. The increase is due to the higher cost of electricity which in turn was sparked off by the rise in fuel oil prices. Fuel cost constitutes about 50 per cent of the cost of electricity, but the increase in tariff has been small compared to the rise in fuel oil prices. This is because of the enhanced efficiency of the electricity industry, resulting in cost savings being passed on to consumers. The tariff adjustments have been approved by the Energy Market Authority, the industry regulator. - CNA/ir
Medicated Oil SG The enhanced efficiency of the electricity company in generating more income by using excuse for increasing bonus and profit for the company. Did the Electricity tariff or the bus fare lower when the fuel prices is down ??
robertteh SG Computation of Electricity Tariff: approx 18 cents per kilowatt hour = (1) Cost of generating electricity: 6 cents + (2) Network charge - 6 to 9 cents + (3) Amortisation : 3 to 6 cents (Land and Equipment) Land was acquired by using taxpayers many years ago. By right taxpayers should not be charged again for the land cost. Network costs refer to the costs of generating electricity for the network from Extra High Tension at 660 KV to 220 KV from 220 KV to 66 KV, 66KV to 22 KV 22KV to 220V and standby generators to provide Maximum Demand during peaks. High voltage users like utility companies use 660KV but were exempted from paying the normal Maximum Demand charge of 6-9 cents per kilowatt-hour. Is this kind of electricity tariff sustainable and equitable. The normal consumers are paying for everything to subsidise the higher end users for the network costs of 6-9 cents while the land costs were already paid and should not be charged again. This is another instance of NKF lack of accountability and transparency in charging consumers for electricity supply. If consumers are not made to pay for all the extra charges in the first place, why should electricity be costing [email protected]#$& per household???
BillyBong SG Well, private bus companies are raising their prices for the new year to combat rising fuel costs. So much for encouraging parents to support these private enterprises. And price increases to electricity tariffs were to be expected. It's merely a question of how much subsidy the gahmen is willing to offer. Here's an interesting thought: The hardest hit will be the low-income group. Some will need govt grants and CDC funds to pay for their bills. In fact, the govt has encouraged these people many times that these sources are available to them. Those eligible need simply fill up an application form. Which in turn translates to grateful voters which in turn continue to keep the PAP in power. Conspiracy theory?
anonymouscoward SG Everything is going up.. transportation, electricity... all except my salary. If I remembered correctly, they just increased the tariff, why are they increasing again? Darn.. high transportation and electricity will have an avalanche effect. We'll see everthing else increase as retailers pass the increment onto the consumer. Most of them even took the liberty to "round up" the increment. Sigh... PAP.. pay and pay.
archon1234 SG Electrical cost keep goes up, means that SP (Singapore Power) will report a very good P&L statement in 2005-2006, so that the listing in SGX and Australia can attract investors to put in $$$ mah, then …...
klishcia SG @#$%^&*! Everything increase but not our salary... @#$%^&*! In Hong Kong, because of their high standard living, their pay is quite high. @#$%^&*! When are they paying more instead of 2% increment only.
dragg SG from st forum. When will households be allowed to choose where to buy electricity from? The Energy Market Authority (EMA) liberalised the electricity market in 2001 to promote competition so that consumers can purchase electricity from retailers of their choice. Currently, only non-domestic consumers with high electricity consumption can purchase electricity from the six retailers. The timeline was planned that by 2003/2004 all consumers would have the right to choose how and whom they wish to buy electricity from. As we are now into 2006, can EMA indicate when domestic consumers can do likewise, so that they can decide whether or not to purchase electricity from the six retailers. Andrew Seow Chwee Guan
ndmmxiaomayi SG Increase again? Sian. Nothing ever goes down. I now waiting for PM Lee to announce budget. I wonder what will go up again.
Atobe SG Will it surprise anyone if Salman is in cahoots with the Ruling Political Party a.k.a the Singapore Government to con us that Singapore Electricity is NOT DEPENDANT on OIL or FUEL FIRED ELECTRIC GENERATORS - and yet the Price of Electricity is pegged on the movement of OIL or FUEL Prices. What could be the reasons for these price increases - when wage bills have been reduced, tax rebates have been returned on buildings and assets, and other incentives to reduce costs have all been tried ? . Yet at the end of each year, the Utilities Companies will all report extraordinary profits. . Either Salman is cheating our intelligence, or the Singapore Government a.k.a the Ruling Political Party is engaging him to divert our attention with his stupendous efforts. .
Atobe SG Unfortunately, it will be doubtful if Salman will offer any explanation that is of any substance in reality to justify the increase in electricity tariff. . It will be interesting to know any justification that he can offer for this increase in tariff - when he claimed in the other thread that Singapore's electricity is not dependant on oil. . His "coffee break" from that other thread has been gone into overtime. .
