A Morally Decadent Society

Just look around and see what our leaders are doing with millions to be spent on more upgrading of projects that do not benefit any one except their own sense of self esteem.

We are led into becoming a morally decadent society where elites control all the resources and wealth and reserves to perpetuate their own rule, suit their own convenience and self-rewards.

In such a society:-

(1) Millions are paid as salaries and bonuses to political elites and their stooges of followers to avoid "temptation" of corruption.

(2) GLCs and NGOs' CEOs who only collect fees and carry out mundane tasks of spending people' monies will be paid $600,000.00 per annum without producing extra economic competitiveness or jobs for citizens' survival and even such over-blown salaries and 8-month bonuses unheard of in any country will be considered peanuts.

(3) Reserves will not be managed to lower the high costs of living or lessen burdens faced by people due to temporary setbacks or unemployements but to build more wonders and edifices.

(4) Reserves will not be managed with accountable and transparent practices but only to give more powers to the elites to do as they please.

(5) Reserves will be used to benefit political elites and their followers to enjoy higher standards of living for themselves who will form into elite clubs and other exclusive sub-cultures to perpetuate their ongoing domination and rule.

(6) The rich and powerful will be increasingly dominating the resources and how the country is run with their own set agendas to increase wealths through fee and fare increases.

(7) All the wonders, projects, marinas and beach resorts and edifices will be built to fulfill elites' own self-esteem instead of creating jobs and lessening burdens of the people.

Dear robertteh,

While I more or less agree to ALL of what you just posted, and have been posting all these while about our government, aren't you afraid of being personally asked to show proof of your statements by our, said government?

So far, NO ONE, however eloquent or politically inclined, has ever gotten away with down talking the PAP.

Personally, I am myself pissed with the way they've been doing things, but what can anyone do? A few people gathered outside CPF building and 40 anti-riot personnells were deployed on them! This just shows what a jealously tenacious grip our government has over their scheme of things.

I just look forward to the day I'm able to high-tail out of this smelting pot of a country.

Thanks for your concern. I will only speak or write the truths and not utter untruths. If I am wrong, I am prepared to apologize. Truths will stand as my bastion of defence against any debunking or justifications.

It is a very simple solution - just change. Just get down from the high horse, recognize mistakes and make amends of past errors.

Do not take too long or try to gross over problem with face-saving justifications as have happened too often in the past 40 years. If leaders want to prove their leadership and talents like being the world's best and highest paid government, then the leaders should solve problems in a more professional manner.

What is wrong cannot be put right as two wrongs do not make one right.

Well, I agree again with your reasonings. But I have mentioned before; this may be a common ball game we are all involved in, but the BALL COURT, belongs to "them".

"They" have the political might to say what's wrong and what's not, and the ability to mask over what's truly wrong. Maybe if you were given a chance, you'd find yourself hard put to challenge reasons with the great one - MM Lee Kuan Yew. Oh, he can argue a dead bird to life!

It's very much like fighting an opponent who wields a machine gun with just a puny stick of defiance.

It is absolutely true what you have advised. We just have to do a certain duty as a citizen while treading with caution in whatever we say. There is a saying - no venture no gain. So we need to stay vigilant and for me, I will try my very best to follow your good advice and not go overboard or get personal.

To have to retract the truth, is an answer enough.Is NKF a microcosm of something larger?I hope not.But my gut tells me not to ever discount anything in this world.

IMHO, the lawsuit against the three defendants should be struck off, as the basis of victory has been shown to be false.

If NKF is to be a new chapter in human relation, the old lawsuits against the three volunteers won by Durai should be set aside as their original basis was clearly found to be false.

Is MOH or Gerald Ee capable of demonstrating this fairness?

Gerard Ee has no say in this issue.It's up to the court to strike out the verdict and compel Durai to return the costs.

If the court can be trusted, then the panist, the football player, the rich man's son and the breadmaker would be in jail now.

So, expect more drama and surprises as no money is EMBEZZLED or pocketed.

It is just a case of mis-management.

No one is guilty.

For point 2, I think the problem is not rising costs alone. Cost are expected to rise as a country progresses on, one cannot expect China labour market to be always that cheap. (We were once that cheap) The problem, is wages, which is generally sticky upwards. Some things must be done to change that.

As for the rest of the arguments, I feel there is a hint of communism in them.... correct me if I am wrong.

If the affected parties (the 3 people who lost their case) do not initiate action, no body will be able to help to correct the wrong (in the eye of law). This is my understanding.

The point 2 problem had not happened due to naturally rising cost. It happened because of political expediency, as medicare and essential government services have grown too expensive being pushed up by government's own high wage policy of the 1980s - 1990s that government has to find an NKF to head off a crisis of sort through charity medicare.

So it fitted the bill of GCT government to find an alternative of providing medicare through charity explaining its support for and the rise of NKF to offer some kind of relief to moderate the government-driven high medicare costs.

However this government-backed NKF has created its own problem due to the powerful government support as with such support, no ordinary board of mortality would try to check on such rising power which eventually overwhelmed the board which lost control over its internal running of the kind reported.

This NKF problems did not happen due to naturally rising costs but was partly created by the government which needed some form of charity base to head off a crisis of high medicare costs which have grown out of reach of ordinary citizens then. So how could ministers now try to push away its part of the blame for causing the NKF.
