To achieve your goals, sometimes you have to be singleminded and (yes) selfish in your pursuits.

We have been inculcated and psycho-influenced too long to 'give back' what we have so-called 'taken' to the nation that we have become a society of lemmings, incapable of independent thought and action.

You make bold decisions and defend them if that's what it takes to be successful. You certainly don't apologise for them.

Has anyone apologised for the bungling of the 700mil micropolis fiasco? Likewise for the laboratory virus-handling screw-up during the height of SARS?

I would certainly be proud should my children learn to think objectively and with an open mind.

Perhaps the intention was there but psychologically, he was also faced with a moral dilemma, one which had future-shaping implications.

Some people seem to forget it's not such a simple choice.

As to why he came back, we should instead ask him the question: why did he RISK coming back over a mere performance?

That will probably explain many things, including his decision to quit NS and SG.

*2. Anyway i am too lazy to write a detailed post and make a reply to every post than condemns Melvyn Tan. Besides, now that Teo Chee Hean has made a statement, more comments is pointless. Sometimes I wonder what has Melvyn Tan done in his past life to deserve such hate to the point that they wanted his family dead.

If only Singaporeans bothered to speak up for alimony cases and the poor dude who got jailed 11 yrs for shoplifting

on a side note, i suspect there are quite some white horses/ undercover ppl posting here. Some of these ppl do not even post on other forums, but whenever a controversial topic is posted, these ppl will make comments in favour of the PAP ruling.

And altho i think women shouldn't be conscripted as well as the men since National Slavery is lame to me, to indirectly say women are not able to defend singapore means you look down on women. It defies the logic of equality for women and stinks of male chauvinism.

One very disturbing thing about Melvyn's case is that Minister for Defence gave his view about need to tighten legislation about NS defaulters. Why wait until now?
The few cases that happened yearly should prompt government to review & revise legislations to remain current many years ago.
Such delay seem strange for a government that always boast about being far-sighted.
Must people make known their displeasures and views before government will act?
Or people must take to the streets in future when abuses are uncover? Because the government turn a deaf ear or in slumber..

Individualy there can never be equality, but there can be almost equality based on larger demographics such as race, sexuality and gender.
