Furthermore, we are talking of soverignity over here, we shouldn't be overwhelmed by threats, that is the whole idea.

As the saying nation always come first, home come second, self is the last. What we are fighting now is Nation soverignity and it can never and will never be override. If we give ways, where and when ever will Singapore be able to stand up again. All our 40 years effort of nation building will be wasted. We can sympathise but cannot condone something that is harmful to the nation and we have to answer to the people if our soverignity is under question.

I think there is actually a lot of academic discourse on the distinction between human and social rights. But whatever it is, I think there is clearly a difference between the State being sanctioned to mandatorily mete out the death sentence and the State giving the people the right and freedom to smoke crack.

As for the sovereignty issue, I agree that we should not give in to this specific request. We should instead re-look our laws on drugtrafficking. Drug abuse is no longer, and unlikely to be, a rampant problem in Singapore. The existing punishment reflects either a medieval mindset in our society and/ or a lazy one.

So now I'm savage just because I stated my point that Australia didn't give it coverage till the last minute because he is not white and not female and not really getting as much coverage as the Bali model there?

And yes, there is alot of politics at play here. I highly doubt the Australian Government will butt in so much if not because of their opposition at play here.

I agree that certain policies need to be improved or changed but nevertheless the mandatory death sentence is still necessary in our society as we do not want to condone what the western has fallen into, a deteroriating society with drugs problem. Probably the law-maker want to weed the problem but they can never be able to do that cos they is no turning back for them since they have been publicising so much on freedom and democracy.

Unless you completely have another belief system as regards the sanctity of human life, I think you'd agree with me that before you sanction your State to take a life, there should be very compelling reasons for doing so. I can think of 2 reasons that might justify such sanction. The act must either be so heinous or atrocious, or it contributes towards a widespread and persistent problem in the society. I do not see drugtrafficking falling under either category.

Furthermore, bear in mind that drug trafficking is just the supply side of the drug problem. When a drug addict degenerates or even dies from the addiction, do you blame the supplier or the addict or the social circumstances leading to the addiction? Not altogether clear, is it?

Whatever it is, heroin is a drug and it is harmful, and it is by having it circulating around it is bad for the society especially when it is use as a tool to lure or force on mankind. So it is not fully right to blame someone who choose to consume drug, they may be forced.

So I don't have a heart for pointing out politics at play Laughing and that he is not media-worthy enough till the very end because he is not "white" , "female" nor "pretty".

I feel for his mum, but I can only blame him for his own stupidity. As said before, there is sympathy and misplaced sympathy.
