Babs,
1) No, you would not have degraded anybody in a normal
circumstance. However, Singaporeans are a different lot. We have
been raised on propaganda of the Ruling Party's successes;
as a result, some of us have developed - although we might refuse
to admit it - a certain desire to fiercely protect our
govt's reputation, even if we don't exactly agree with their
actions.
Concurrently, our government has been at work again to stir
our people to defend "national sovereignty", a term to
which as many meanings are attributed to as there are colours in
the spectrum. As a result, I will apologize for some of my fellow
Singaporeans if they seem just a tad too emotional.
2) Here's the Singaporean reply: Well, that "poor malaysian"
deserved it because he was foolish enough to accept a stranger's
package. Didn't he mum ever tell him never to talk to
strangers?
Sadly, this could be one of the reasons why Singaporeans are
generally - there are exceptions - less friendly to strangers than
Aussies or Kiwis.
But oh well, when you are in the Lion City, have the temper of a
Lion and you'll survive. After all, one of this nation's chief
virtues is ruggedness.
3) Correction here. This thread is about how the Australian
government and people (Sorry, Signaporeans can't separate
both) have been mocking and degrading Singapore.
*Sigh* And I thought we were discussing on the validity of the
Death Penalty...

P.S.: Hey pple, stop flaming and try and talk this issue more
clamly and scholarly. Chennooi and dreamerb, bring your stupid
petition somewhere else!!!
I need to rephrase the sentence on para 3: "Sorry, some people
can't separate PAP and singaporean. "
Singaporeans are raised on the success of Singapore (the ppl, the
government, the ruling parties and the oppositions). We all
agree.
Singaporeans are brought up with education from our parents and our
schools. Only those whose parents do not teach them will learn
everything from schools, and those who do not agree with the
government will call what the government says as propaganda, by
that they are implying that their teachers are government agents,
their teachers obviously didn't teach them to think.
It is wrong to think that all those thoughts here happend to agree
with the existing laws of singapore are acting out of instigation
by the government in the name of "national sovereignty". There is
no need.
It once again show the arrogance of those who think that their
ideas are the ideas of singaporean. Far from it.
Babs, come visit singapore and experience for yourself whether
singaporean are lion, tigers or what? we cannot deny there are some
singaporean who hide behind the monitors with a pseudo name to make
noise, these are the wild cats, come out only at night ....well,
here even the night safari won't want them.
