Bracks calls for prisoner exchange system to save Nguyen
Victorian Premier Steve Bracks says he would like to see a prisoner
exchange system with Singapore to allow convicted drug smuggler Van
Nguyen to serve time in a Victorian jail.
Mr Nguyen is due to be hanged next week, and the Federal Government
is taking advice on whether an international legal challenge can be
mounted.
Mr Bracks has told Southern Cross Radio that a prisoner exchange
system could be part of a solution in any legal challenge.
"Certainly, we would facilitate that and we would move heaven and
earth to make sure that worked effectively if that was to be
undertaken as part of an intervention through the International
Court, which I know the Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer, is now
considering," he said.
Nguyen was arrested three years ago with almost 400 grams of heroin
strapped to his body and in his backpack.
Got such thing, they are demanding more, maybe one day they demand
SIA to be exchange with Qantas.
