I will remember Mr. Devan Nair as a true unionist for what he
did as a unionist.
He was appointed as President, but like all appointed president, he
din do much. may be he did not have enough time, if he had cut
short his presidency with his own uncontrolled drinking
habits.
Was he or was he not alcoholic? did he or did he not misbehave in
an official event? it is not necessary to dig up the old issue and
wash dirty linen in the public.
did he ask for a state funeral? does his family ask for a state
funeral? lets not take this as an opportunity to swipe at the
government, it may be the late mr. nair and his family who get
hurt.
Mr Nair's contribution to the nation, whether as a unionist or as a
president, will be remembered by those who were around him, who
worked with him, who learned from him, who benefitted from him. May
he rest in peace.
