Singapore sacks hangman before Australian execution

I remember saying in another post in another thread.... lethal injection just introduces a whole new set of problems, most notably: Which medic is going to...

i think they got applications from all over the region, but they purposely pick the Aussie old man to spite Alexander Downer and John Howard Laughing

ditzy SG

Howard doesn't give a damn lah. Laughing You live here so long you still dunno meh?

TehJarVu SG

He is still a politician leh Laughing

He warned LHL when he met him at the summit that the hanging may cause a lot of unhappiness amongst the Australians

ditzy SG

He warn LHL the majority of the australian public won't be pleased if singapore carries on, that's all he did. Laughing In the first place, does Howard really give a damn about the majority of the australian public? I think the IR reforms says everything. When I'm really bored late nights and I need something to laugh at, I turn to channel ABC and watch the parliament sessions.

I asked an australian about this issue and he says "Fuck with the Government. They got more time interfering with other countries' politics than to act on something more important in our own country."

Singapore is following its own law, While Australia is asking for some humanity.

Can we just avoid the conflict by asking the presidential pardon???? The guy however can still remain in Changi Prison under Singapore's custody.

In this way, both sides can save face.

how ? ....

this thing has blown up so big, there is not gracefull way for either side to back down ... how can this chap get a presidential pardon when we've been hanging our own chappies ? .... or why should this chap get a goodbye hug from his mom when other chaps hanged previously had to follow the no contact rule ? ...

i think it's a good lesson in the destructive power of the (aussie) press, and what over sensationalism can do ....

perhaps if things were nice and quiet from the start ... a quiet word from one FM to the next and the chap may just have to rot away for the rest of his life in changi prison (on Singapore tax-payers expense), it is sad ... but with this kind of scrutiny, there is no way out but to execute the chappie ....

Presidential pardon just means that the president is kind and decide to not let you die. It does not mean that singapore's law is lax or anything like that.

All Nathan has to do is just let him don't die and the Aussies will be happy and singapore Government also can save face.

I think the government should not hang anybody, we need to allow them to turn over a new leaf, give them a brand new chance in life… So I suggest the government give them monthly allowance in exceeding of $100000 for them to repent, the better they get, the more money they receive. Also, just in case they are homeless, I also suggest government give them a bunglow each ah. By the way, they take public transport people are scared of them, so I suggest we give them a BMW each ah… Hor seh liow!

Hmmm.. I remember reading before that the procedure practiced in Changi Prison is that the condemned man is left to dangle on the rope for 30min before he is brought down. So it's a sure death, even if the vertebra doesn't break, the strangulation will kill by then.

Just that i can't imagine how the witnesses, especially the doctor present, can bear to witness the act.

Honeybunz SG

wait long long

ditzy SG

Our president was the first to say no, then the rest of the story just got hotter and hotter. Laughing

cornyfish2000 SG

Well although it is officially called a 'Presidential Pardon', but in reality the President is constitutionally bound to abide by the decision of the cabinet.

So whether a condemned prisoner is spared is really the decision of the government.

Salman SG

No problem, just leave him alone, take a coffee break and come back 30 mins later.
I read that the Saudi guy who does execution grab onto the hanging man so that he dies faster and less painful.

Lethal injection might be a better substitution for hanging since it less painful, les gross maybe? But do bear in mind that lethal injection will cause some parts of the bodies or some organs not suitable for usage.

Well, this case is definitely a must to follow.
